So they finally updated the current total no. of PhD applicants' webpage, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/complete-applications.asp
Currently 42 of 1,000 (as of December 27, 2012).

also available in the site was the following statement:

"The first cap year for the PhD stream closed October 31, 2012. The new cap year began on November 1, 2012 and will end on October 31, 2013, unless otherwise indicated by the Minister."

About 5 more than we had last year by this time. Puzzling is the lack of participation of these new people here, if I remember correctly, we had 37 applicants in 17 of January, which we have about 20 (had more, deleted due to rejection or disappearance ), meaning about 50 % of them! Meanwhile, we may hope to see some movement for January applicants by the end of this month or Mid February.

You should be seeing some PERs the coming few days :)

Well, I should expect that the 1st year batch start moving. Right now its still stuck at the Dec applicants - in which most of them only received med request. I hope that Jan applicants like meteor2012, supergoldenfish, AF___, JBR, hsn893, ngag, s.guo82, famou12, hossein61, TyrusX, crazyleader, cdhbamboo, MR_NAWAZ and carol_0130 would have at the very least medical request soon - then we know for sure its moving on as it should.

I hope they have started processing our applications (considering the new movements and the launch of the new FSW from May 2013)

Thanks for the info, guys. I wonder why it took them more than two months just to add the following information on the website:

The first cap year for the PhD stream closed October 31, 2012. The new cap year began on November 1, 2012 and will end on October 31, 2013, unless otherwise indicated by the Minister.

If only they had added this sometimes on November (or at least, notified back on October that the cap will definitely be reset), we wouldn't have to keep making educated guesses as to whether the cap will reset, adding anxiety to a lot of applicants as to whether they should invest the time and money to apply.

I was wondering, should we add a new sheet for 2012-13 applications, to avoid confusion?

I don't know. I think having a new sheet may complicate things further.

Bonne nouvelle!

Hi,

I appreciate it if someone can comment on the proof of financial support. Is it enough to just provide a bank statement mentioning the account balance for a specific date (i.e. 15 January 2013); or I have to submit a transaction history for a period of time (i.e. 3 months).
Does the TA/RA contract count as a financial support? For example, a letter from my supervisor mentioning my salary for the last and the next two years.

Also, any news for applicants from Quebec?

Thanks a ton

Try to submit a 6 months bank history, as this will show that you indeed have the money needed. I don't know what you mean by financial support from TA/RA. DO you mean is RA/TA valid as a job offer?

Hi there,

I was wondering how much on average did it take for some of you who got their permanent residences under the PhD stream. I am curious because on the cic's website it says that the Ottawa Case Processing Pilot Office takes 8 months to process an application. Did it take anyone 8 months to get their PR?

Thanks!!

So far only 3 persons got PR after a few days less than a year. Many already crossed the 13 months line and have no end in sight. Those 8 months are not realistic, as it is known that CPP-Ottawa has a backlog of more than 10 thousand people waiting in line for more than 2 years: http://www.canada.com/Buffalo+immigration+backlog+leaves+Canadians+limbo/7651119/story.html

and here is when the optimistic side of the story comes in. the story from the link shared may not reflect our stream. things will pick up now that major holidays and summer/early fall hols are over.... mark my words.

Please change my info in the sheet. My application in Sep. was returned. After adding the attestation letter and police certificate, I re-sent my application and the package reached Sydney on Nov 27.
