Could anyone please tell me what is the minimum working hours we need in order to be eligible, i.e., what is the exact number CIC has as a standard for one year of full time work? Those following the process closely, do you know how strict CIC has been on this matter? I got a similar response than nima2000, and am trying to figure out whether I need the hours of the missing reference letter.

Thank you.

Hi All,

My friend will complete two years of PhD in December this year. Can he apply under PhD stream in January 2013? Are they accepting another 1000 applications for the next year?

We tried to call CIC Call center, and they answered that, according to the CIC website, 853 applications have been received as of 15 August 2012. Call center agents do not have any further information.

From where can we check this information?

Thanks
Indus

They are very strict about it. I applied for immigration a year ago under the CEC stream and my application was rejected because I was 50 hours short. Make sure you meet them: at least one year, continuous, and paid (full-time or the equivalent in part-time);

Asbereth knows about this. I think it is about 1950 hours.

Also guys, I'm kind of behind on updating the spreadsheet. So Please send me a private message if you want to be added. Please add all the information we require there ok?

1950 hours per year, right?
yep = One yer of continuous work experience = 1950 hours min.

The applicant's work experience must:

• have occurred during the 10 years immediately preceding the date of application;

• be in occupations listed in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) under Skill Type 0
or Skill Level A and B;

• not be in an occupation that has been designated by the Minister as a restricted occupation.
At the time of printing, there were no occupations designated as restricted. However, for the
most up-to-date listing, officers should refer to the Department's website at
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp;

• be full-time work, which, according to R80(7), is equivalent to at least 37.5 hours of paid work
per week. Full-time work experience requirement may be met by the equivalent in part-time
paid work experience, e.g. two part-time jobs held simultaneously. Experience can be
calculated by adding up the number of weeks of full-time work, i.e. 37.5 hours per week in
one job or a total of at least 37.5 hours per week in more than one job, in one or more of the
NOC categories. Periods of work of less than 12 months during the 10 years immediately preceding the date of the application may be added together and divided by 12 to calculate the number of years.

I did send them the reference letter from our department ,signed and stamped by the department as well as my supervisor!
I think they ask for the letter of attestation. It must issued by the dean of graduate study at your university, this letter is also needed to be signed and stamped.

Hi, One question regarding police certification. I know it's better to send the police cert with the application. But I have stayed in Hong Kong for three years and I couldn't get police certicate from them without a request letter from Canada. Is it mean that I will have to wait till CIC send me request letter? Is there any way to speed up this process?

Well I am defending in April 2013 and I just started a job as a university professor in September. It's a conditional job employment:it will be permanent and tenure track as soon as I have my diploma in Humanities. We'll see what immigration does with that information.

Please update my information in the spreadsheet. I just received confirmation of receipt of payment as well as PER in an email today.

PER Received: 8 November 2012
Hi northyorkca, congratulations on finally getting the PER. Can you provide us with the date your credit card got charged as well, so I can update your info on the spreadsheet? Thanks :)

Ya, and I think that 37.5 hours is also the maximum number of hours you can claim per week (say, if you claim to work 60 hours for a particular week, they would only count up to 37.5 hours for that week). As utopie said, make sure that you meet this requirement, as we have had some applicants getting NER precisely because they had less than the equivalent of one year of continuous paid work experience. Of course, besides the minimum number of hours, you should also make sure that you have more than 67 points WITHOUT counting the 5 adaptability points for previous study (unless you actually have a post-secondary degree from a recognized Canadian institution).

Congratulations :) It looks like that these days, the CIO would charge your credit cards, only after they did the initial review of eligibility (hence the short time period between credit card charging and PER issuance).

Anyway, for folks who want to be included in the spreadsheet, please include as much information as requested as possible. We want to gather as much data as possible to derive some sort of a conclusion, and your information has been really helpful in our continuing efforts to reverse engineer the inner working of the CIC so far (though they are still pretty much unpredictable in some aspects, especially post-Sydney).
