Dear All,
I am new to this forum and I wanted to have your opinion about my letter of reference.
I am working towards a PhD degree at the university of Waterloo
Our funding there is called Graduate research studentship (GRS) which is non-taxable (thus different from the GRA which is taxable)
My supervisor would only issue a letter of reference stating that my job title is a "full time graduate student"
however, the letter included the lead statement and most of the duties stated by NOC 4012
You think it will be okay? or the job title should be "research assistant"?
my letter mentions the following:

"This is to confirm that Mr.  has been working under my supervision as a full time graduate student doing research in the field of  at the Department of , University of , since January 1, 2009 till now"

then it continues with the lead statement and major duties
Thanks a lot

Thanks mkrp21 so much for your reply
The lead statement is mentioned clearly with all the duties in the remaining of the letter
I am just concerned about the job title
If I do all the duties of a research assistant while my title is graduate student, will it be considered as job experience or not?
anyone had similar experience?

I just got my passport back. The visa was dated April 29, but COPR May 15, not sure why they waited two weeks after visa issuance to issue me COPR. I will post later tonight after I'm done with the landing procedure.
congrats!

Mention "assist professor xxxx in research activities" which is the lead statement of NOC 4012. Moreover, use the duties mentioned in this link http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2011/Profile.aspx?val=4&val1=4012, explain each duty and add your publications.

Thanks a lot beh467
I already did that, but what worries me is the title is "Graduate student" and not a "research assistant"

I think it should be one of the titles mentioned here: http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2011/ViewAllTitles.aspx?val=4&val1=4012.
Otherwise, it is possible that they don't accept your letter.

At least try to change it to graduate assistant which is one of the titles in the link above.

The department is very strict about it, they say I am receiving a GRS so they can only give me a letter mentioning I am a Graduate student >:( >:( >:(

Ask your supervisor to write it, not the department. It should one of the titles under the NOC, a Graduate assistant would be approved by both, your university and CIC.

Yey!..congrats asbereth!!

I have some good news too guys...i got document request for updated PCCs from India for both me and my husband. Shortly afterwards in a second email, i got the request for RPRF...
in the email it says

This is in reference to your application for a permanent resident visa, which has been found eligible in the Class for which it was submitted. Admissibility review (security, criminality and/or medical) is still ongoing; you will be contacted if additional information is required for that purpose.

We wish to remind you at this time that your Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF) is outstanding........

so i guess my application has been found eligible!!.. ;D

Hi hamedy,
graduate student is not enough. Can they write that you are a "graduate student" to "assist your professor ..... in research". I hope it works.
