AOR Timeline and New 'Bridging' Work Permit

Firstly, I am SO glad that CIC has set up the bridging permit. While I had just surrendered to the idea of leaving my partner/home and returning to UK for an extended stay, they go and change everything....!

Anyway, I'm wondering how long it might take between posting an application to receiving an AOR?

I plan to post my CEC application by January 31st. My PGWP runs out end of April. I am wondering if the 'bridging permit' might be too much of a dream-come-true? Any thoughts? Would the 'bridging permit' give you implied status?

I'm in the exact same boat as you. I'm applying for CEC in the middle of February and was delighted to read about this bridging work permit.

Although I am a bit concerned because we cannot apply for the bridging work permit until we have our AOR on our CEC application. Even though I'll still have over 4 months left on my work permit when I send off for my CEC application, I have it on good authority that this might not be enough time for me to recieve my AOR.

However, a good friend of mine works for an immigration lawyer and this what she said they do for their clients...

If the end of your work permit is bearing down, and there is still no sign of your AOR, send the bridging application anyway. When you send off the bridging application, you automatically get 'implied' status in Canada to live and work while it is in the system and under consideration. Even though you have no AOR, send...

- Copy of your CEC cover letter
- Copy of your receipt showing you paid the CEC fees.
- Photocopy of your recorded delivery slip when you sent off your CEC application for processing.
- If your application has at least been entered into the online tracking system on the CIC website, take a screen shot.

Send all this stuff off with your bridging application and add a note saying something to the effect of ‘I’ve sent off my CEC application on X date and I’m still waiting on my AOR.’ Then ask them if they can DELAY making a decision on bridging application until you have chance to receive and send on the AOR.

There’s no guarantees of course, but there is a chance they might give you an extra 30 – 60 days to send it.

It’s not ideal, but it might be worth a shot.

Takes about 2 months to get AOR. Good luck!

I'd take Pete's advice! The worse case scenario is they will refuse it, the best it will work. If everything continues to move as it has been, you will have your AOR in time anyway!

Could be lucky as well - they received my PR Application and I got my AOR 21 days after that day.
