Anyone applied a Student Permit from Philippines?

Hello everyone its very nice to meet you. I have a few questions in regards to my wife coming to Canada to study from the Philippines. She wants to enroll for January 5 2015 classes while Oct 1 is intake for my local college. Given the time frame between now and the college intake and payment of tuition we are having problems proving the 10,000$ living expenses. Tuition is paid for but my wife recently graduated receiving a bachelors in secondary education and has no collateral, bank accounts or personal home to help prove the 10k. I am funding her education and am a Canadian citizen living in Canada. Our question is what alternatives to showing 10,000 in a bank account with 4 months worth of statements do we have? Is it possible to have her aunt put her house and land as collateral? Her aunts are willing to fund the living expenses portion of her study permit but we don't know how to do it properly within our time frame. What sort of proof of sponsorship would be required from her aunts? Her bachelors degree was sponsored by her aunts and not her mother the only surviving blood relative who has no equity to contribute. We are not sure if they deposit money into her bank account now would have enough time to be valid as the course starts in little over 5 months with 2 months to start intake and pay tuition. We can't start the process until Oct 1 due to the college opening tuition payment at the time. So that leaves only 3 months until school starts to get the study permit and prove living expenses. If we put 10,000$ into her personal bank account august 1 will the government consider that adequate if the money is still there when she flies to start her course in january? I really hope someone can provide us with assistance. Thank you for your time reading this and response.

hi! I take it you mean January 2016 intake?

Is it not possible for you to be her sole sponsor instead? Anyhow, there's no need to transfer anything to her name, she just needs to present an affidavit of support from her aunts and from you. I didn't present any bank account in my name, only my parents' accounts.

Does your wife already have her letter of acceptance from your local college? Which college is it? Is it a designated learning institution?
Has she already taken her IELTS?

3 months is more than enough time to file the visa and go through the process. The average processing time for Manila is 7 weeks.

One last question, I'm just curious - wouldn't a family sponsorship be better than a student visa since you are already a Canadian citizen? Mind you, they might question this condition, since for a student visa, your wife has to prove that she will return to the Philippines after her studies.

Dito nako! :p

Mas madami tanung sakin Phil. Immigration vs dito sa Toronto. The POE experience was something like this:

1. Canadian boarder- show your LOI here so they can direct you to immigration. They asked ke about my study program though.

2. Immigration- Show again the LOI, visa and LOA. Then they'll print the permit and then staple it to your passport. Make sure you have have the remarks "May work for 20hrs... and full time on breaks..."Otherwise you have to file an ammendment to get a SIN

3. Service Canada for your SIN. Just show your passport with study permit that indicates you can work.

My total time inside the airport was around 2 hours. Take note that you can get your SIN at the airport from Mondays to Fridays at 1-9pm :)

Yes January 5 is the start of classes.

Is it not possible for you to be her sole sponsor instead? Anyhow, there's no need to transfer anything to her name, she just needs to present an affidavit of support from her aunts and from you. I didn't present any bank account in my name, only my parents' accounts.

I would not mind being her sole sponsor at all but wasn't sure if this was even possible for the living expense part. How do you get an affidavit to show 10,000$ worth of support? Is it possible for non blood relations to even do an affidavit for that amount of money? Her aunts sponsoring would be the best option but we want to have it proven and organized before the deadline and we don't really know where to start.

Does your wife already have her letter of acceptance from your local college? Which college is it? Is it a designated learning institution?
Has she already taken her IELTS?

She is taking the IELTS August 13. Her letter of acceptance will happen oct 1 to oct 5 because thats when our college opens up tuition payments and acceptance. The acceptance I am told happens within days and through email. I am able to physically go to the school and give her sealed transcripts tuition and any other types of hard copy information including the scanned items oct 1. Medicine Hat College. And yes its a designated learning institution.

3 months is more than enough time to file the visa and go through the process. The average processing time for Manila is 7 weeks.

Our international advisor said time wise we had no problems but we were stuck on the living allowance to fit our timeline.

One last question, I'm just curious - wouldn't a family sponsorship be better than a student visa since you are already a Canadian citizen? Mind you, they might question this condition, since for a student visa, your wife has to prove that she will return to the Philippines after her studies.

Family Sponsorship is a valid option if she wants to come live with me but the processing is upwards of 20+ months. We intend to pursue our education anyways so a study permit is a more acceptable route right now. We just want to make it in time for the January 5 classes. Thank you VERY much for your information and help...i can not tell you how much I appreciate your response so hastily.

^^ My advise is for you to become her sponsor since you are already her husband anyway and considered to be her immediate relative. Will she be staying with you? You just have to show CIC bank certificates of your accounts, properties (land titles, house, car) and write a letter that you are sponsoring her. Also provide proof that she is your wife (marriage certificate). Procedure is the same if you ultimately decide to go with her aunts as her sponsor.

You have to be very careful though about using the study permit as a means to get her to Canada to live with you. I'm sure the VO will notice that you are her husband and will have questions as to why you are not using Family Sponsorship instead. Your wife has to show the logical progression of her studies from what she graduated from in college, and she has to show that she will be employable once she returns to the Philippines. Questions such as:
> why is she taking this course in Canada and not in the Philippines?
> what are her employment prospects in the Philippines when she finishes her degree?
> what are her family ties and responsibilities that will prove her willingness to return?

Many include a letter of intent / statement of purpose with their application so your wife can write the same

Good luck!

Yes she will be staying with me. How do we go about getting land titles, house title, and car that is valid for the CiC? I don't own a house/land only vehicles. I have great credit but low equity so i think he aunts sponsoring her will be the most adequate way of sponsoring to show proof of sponsoring. Her aunt writes a letter stating she will be the sponsor then she shows proof of bank statesments land titles and home ownership proving she can provide the 10,000$ if need be? Or is there more specific paperwork involved for it to be valid? Also i am curious if it is possible for multiple people to sponsor her or will it be a detriment to her application such as two of her aunts sponsoring and providing both bank accounts house and vehicle statements. I'm so happy to hear that we don't necessarily have to get 10,000$ cad together at once and have it sit in an account for 6 months. We are prepared to write a cover letter to show how the progression of University Transfer: General Studies will tie into her Bachelors of Education. Her family back home is comprised of school Principles and superintendents. Her entire family is teachers so we were thinking its plausible to have her principle aunt sponsor her and include that they want to have her get an increased knowledge of canadian educational practices to bring back to the philippines to be emplyed by/with her principle aunt.

Thanks again for these great replies! So thorough!

Hi po sa lahat ng kabayan ;)

Bago lang po ako dito sa forum. Ask ko po dito kung may nakapag take na ng course na Post graduate nursing cert. and management diploma? Any advice kung kaya pa bang i-defend ito sa SOP ko since I am already a nurse dito sa pinas? Nangangamba lang po ako baka totally isipin ng VO na mag stay na ko for good since ang study is also direct preparation for CRNE or NCLEX to be registered as a nurse in Canada.

You're help will be highly appreciated since I am planning to lodge my application the soonest possible time ;D

Hello ibon_adarna!

please note that what I'm about to say are just my opinions :)I think international students are percieved as aspiring immigrants. What visa officers are particular of are your plans IF you didn't transition successfully. Kaya siguro important yung hometies, travel experience and assets. In your case, you need to show how this program will improve your career in your home country. :)

The best advice I can give is just be truthful with your application. The visa officers are very good in finding out about your intentions. When I was at the immigration line earlier, a student visa holder was at the counter. When his name was placed in the computer, they found out that his sister was already in Canada and was also a student visa holder and that their mom was already overstaying. Tapos he was escorted to another room yata. I didn't see where since I was about to be called na.

There was someone here who got a scholarship, didn't presented show money (or maybe showed just a little bit) and even mentioned pursuing further studies after graduating and she got her visa. :)

Land titles and car registration documents should be easily obtainable in the Philippines. In my case, I just sent a certified true copy of my parents' land titles to CIC. Her aunts can also ask their banks for bank certificates stating the amount of deposits they have with them. No more other paperwork, except for the affidavit of support or letter of sponsorship. Just make sure that CAD$10,000 is liquid / easily withdrawable, but you don't need to transfer those to your wife. Yes, multiple sponsors are allowed, it shouldn't be a problem. Her principal aunt can also include in her letter of sponsorship that your wife has a job waiting for her when she graduates.

Hi, clarify ko lang - yung course is "Nursing Certificate and Management?"
Walang problema yan as long as you can explain in your SOP how your past experience and studies are connected to your planned course and how you plan to use this knowledge when (theoretically) you come back to the Philippines.
The VO knows that many international students have "Dual Intent" to study and later immigrate. This, per se, is not a barrier to be granted a student visa. Pero dapat ipakita lang sa VO na IF EVER hindi ka makakaextend ka sa Canada, willing kang umuwi sa Pinas on your own. So kailangan mo rin i-establish ang "employability" mo (work history), yung past travel history mo (of not violating visa terms) and that you have something to come back to in the Philippines.

Good luck!!

Na-border security? :D Yung overstaying cases talaga kasi red flag to any immigration officer, kaya siguro ayun.

Wow! Very informative po talaga lahat ng sinabi nyo. Thank you so much po Mic-Mic and Scorpio1641!

At talagang mag pray for God's grace. :D

By the way, isasama ko po ang husband ko sa application. Marami na po kaming nabasa na good news and bad news about this.
