Any suggestion about proposed duration of stay for TRV

Hi,
I want to know is there any advisable period to state as "duration of stay in Canada" for spouse TRV application?
Is it advisable to keep it short for 2-3 weeks?
or there is no harm in mentioning what you wish like 3-4 months?

In my mother in law's multiple TRV application, we mentioned she will want to visit Canada up to 5 months upon each entry. She got the visa with no issues.

Thank you. Can you further guide in writing a cover letter for multiple entry visa? I mean there is no difference in application package for single or multiple entry visa then is it sufficient to mention in cover letter?

It depends on who is asking. Mother in law- is one thing, a young guy is another.
