Hi everyone,

I am from Singapore planning to study in Canada.. Would like to get some information about it from a singaporean who is studying in canada.
Just reply me so that I could get some informations.
Thank you!

what would u like to know? i am a SGean and had studied in Canada before and here in Canada, what would u like to know?

Hi... Well Im currently doing my Diploma in Nursing and will be graduating next year. I want to pursue my education in toronto and also start a career and migrate there. But Im not too sure how to go about it. I have been looking out for courses in some colleges in Toronto.

I would like to know if that even after graduating from any college in toronto, is it easy to get a job and settle down? How was it like to settle in canada?

I would also like to know, how did you go about the application to a college? When we apply for the college, do we require to show a bank draft? and about bank loan matters, Im confused about which banks here in singapore have connections with canada which could provide educational loans. I did my research in it but Im still not sure of how to go about it.

So if you do have any suggestions for me, I'll be very pleased to know it.
Thank you!

Once u graduate from a Canadian Uni or College, u are eligible to stay and apply for a work permit and work in Canada, regardless of the city. Easy or not to settle down to find a job depends on which city are u are targeting. To be frank, cities like Toronto and Vancouver are too populated already and the ease of settling down is getting difficult and also finding a job in these cities are getting competitive with the rising unemployment rate in most jobs and most industries, though the economy is recovering. In yr area of nursing, whatever u have done in Singapore will need to be re-qualified and re-certified here, meaning u will have to take a Diploma or degree again nursing and then u can have a chance to find a job in nursing. Toronto is pretty easy to get used to it as there are plenty of Asians but like i said before, it gets competitive and hard to find a job with the high number of job seekers. However, u are a bit lucky cause u r in the field of nursing where there is still some chances of getting nursing jobs easily. U should look at other cities instead of just Toronto cause many other cities, like in Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, offers better opportunities and easier to find jobs in nursing field compared to Toronto, for sure. As with how is it to settle in Canada, this is very subjective, some people from Singapore like it, some do not, one thing for sure, quality of life here is much better than in SG, and also the pace of work is much slower and more relaxed.

Application to colleges is easy, just go to the college website that u want to apply to then apply from there. U dont need to show a bank draft while applying but when u need to get yr study visa, u may be required to show sufficient funds in the bank to be able to pay for at least the first yr of yr college studies in Canada. Which banks provide loans in SG, then that u have to find out from the banks yrself.

IF u plan to come here to study and immigrate, first, conduct research to find out as much as u can on the programs and the job opportunities of the job that u want to work in after graduation. Look up the job sites of yr specific occupation and also the prospects of the jobs that u are keen in. Then choose a city that u want to work in after graduation then look for the college that may be available in that city for u to complete yr studies so that after u graduate, u have less problem moving to another city or it may be easier for u to find a job, in the same city as u graduate.

To be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit, international students:

Must have studied full-time for the eight months preceding the completion of their program (please see note below) and must have graduated from:
- a public post-secondary educational institution (university, college, or CEGEP); or
- a Private post-secondary educational institution that operates under the same rules and regulations as public institutions, and receives at least 50 per cent of its financing for operations from government grants; or
- a Canadian private educational institution authorized by provincial or territorial statute to confer degrees.
- Must apply for a work permit within 90 days of receiving written confirmation from their academic institution that they have met the requirements of their program.
- Must have completed and passed the program of study and received written notification that they are eligible to obtain their degree, diploma, or certificate.
- Must have a valid study permit when applying for the work permit.
- The program of study must be a minimum of two years for the graduate to obtain the three year work permit. However, if the program was less than two years but longer than eight months, the graduate can still obtain a work permit for the same duration as the program of study. In cases where a student has obtained a one year degree or diploma from an accredited educational institution within two years of having successfully completed a previous accredited Canadian post-secondary degree or diploma, he or she may qualify for a three-year open work permit.

Oh Thank you so much for the useful information..
Im starting my preparations with the courses and loans. Do you think getting an agent is much better then applying ourselves?

I will do my research on my courses and the demand for it...

Thanks a lots!

Why need an agent? if u want an agent, hiring me is better than anyone who is an agent! hahahaha

Just do it yrself man! Its easy!
