Make sure you use an approved panel physician for the medical exam. You can find a list of approved doctors on the CIC site as well.

Well, the sponsor needs to have their Option C printout from the CRA, and your marriage certificate if you're married.

The first thing you should grasp, is to NOT try to understand why CIC does what they do...you'll lose your frickin' mind!

She has to provide the Option C (which has to be mailed to her by Canada Revenue) for her most recent tax year. Even though you plan to stay put and then come to Canada later, once you have your CoPR documents, SHE IS GOING TO BE FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU FOR 3 YEARS.

Plus, since you have not been together that long, you will likely be getting a conditional PR, but don't panic. All that means is that you must continue to live with your wife for 2 years. After 2 years, the condition (known as Condition 51) is automatically lifted. This was put in place in late 2012, to attempt to curb fraudulent marriages that made it past the CIC screening process. This means that CIC can, at their discretion, `check up on the couple' to make sure that they are still living together as a married couple.

She should be well aware of what she's agreeing to in sponsoring you. It's much more than filing out the forms and waiting for a decision. It really is a multi-year (financial) obligation as well!

She was a student up until 2 weeks ago so she worked very part time. Does that matter?

They want to know if your wife has ever been on welfare. They can check this with the Option C.

Also it helps if she has income which they can again check with the Option C. The concern is how she will support you once you get your PR. Just because you are able to work doesn't mean that CIC will assume you will indeed have income. But your wife having income is not mandatory. She can still sponsor without income as long as she hasn't been on welfare for the past year.

I sponsored my wife. It took about 7 months total for everything to get processed

you are not eligible for conjungal because you don't have any barriers to getting married. "not wanting to get married at a judge because she wants a real wedding" is not a legitimate barrier. since you are both visa exempt to each other's country, it is possible to get married. true barriers are when someone is not visa exempt and is denied a visa to the other country, or it is illegal to marry because of religious or sexual orientation reasons.

You would have NO chance of being approved conjugal. NONE!

This is for couples that cannot marry, or be together, which is NOT the case for you.

Seriously...don't even waste a minute considering this option.

You'll have to wait until you get married. It was the same for us... we didn't want the quick "city hall" wedding so it delayed things in regards to when we could apply. As others mentioned, you cannot apply for conjugal.
