Hi guys!

It's me again--hoping to get your expert tips on another visa query.

My husband has a 4 month contract to work in BC. The Seattle consul gave him a 1 yr visa stamp. At the border, he was given again a 1 yr validity for his work permit.

I applied for a TRV and was given a 6 month validity at the same border.

We are both non-US citizens who require visas to enter Canada. My question is: can I apply for an open work permit with my husband's 1 yr valid work permit? Here's another issue: I've read that the principal applicant needs to be valid to work for 6 mos for the spouse to qualify (his work belongs to the A, B level)---> Does this apply to the actual contract duration (w/c is 4 mos. in his case) or the actual work permit validity awarded at the border?

Please enlighten us, guys. Any input would be very, very appreciated. :)

Thanks in advance!!!

It's the validity of his work permit that matters. You should be able to get an open work permit coinciding with the end date of his WP. I'm surprised they didn't suggest that to you at the border when you entered.

That's true---people were wondering too when we mentioned that.

Thanks for the reply, btw! Appreciate the feedback! :)
