My landing experience, Part-1

Dear all, I landed in Toronto on October 6. We started from Gulshan, Dhaka at 3 in the morning for the airport for the Turkish airline flight. It took only 15 minutes to reach the airport. The usual crowd at airport was missing. There was no queue as such at the check-in. We waited for a couple of minutes when the airlines official serving executive class called us for check-in. There was no problem with the weight as we were carrying less than the allocated weight. TK (Turkish Airlines) is offering 3 23-kg luggage plus a 7-kg hand luggage for each new immigrant passenger. I took seats from TK office in Gulshan-1 earlier and at the check-in they just issued boarding cards for Dhaka-Istanbul and Istanbul-Toronto flight. After check-in we waited outside the check-in area with our relatives. Then at the immigration, again there was no queue. We got in within two minutes. But at the checking-in before boarding there was a long queue as the flight was full with European and north American passengers. The on-board service was poor with unsmiling flight attendants. I had cough and fever and found it difficult to get a class of hot water.

At the Istanbul airport I felt like it was one kind of harassment for transit passengers in the name of security check. The American and Canadian passengers had to stand in a queue. They asked for our passports and wanted to see COPR. They also ask about from were the visa was issued, my profession, did i apply myself or through a lawyer etc. I was not sure whether they should ask such questions to a transit passengers. The official then took the passport and other papers to a nearby counter and put small stickers on the back of our passport, and asked us to go to the security areas. There the passengers had to go through a serious screening procedure - like opening your watches, belts and even shoes. It was a bit too much for us. Inside the transfer area no one was there to give any information. I found the officials and employees at Istanbul airport are generally unfriendly or can be called rude. (more to follow in Part-2)

Dear Friends,
I am from Bangladesh, and my Visa Office is Singapore. My Immigration Application file have been received by CIC on 7th August, 2013. I applied under the NOC code 1112 (Financial and investment analysts). Based on the changes of rules and duration of application process, can anyone tell me that within how many days from the date of application/application received I will get the file number.

ATTENTION BANGLADESHI APPLICANTS: Anyone who is familiar with the processing time duration, especially who have already received UCI number, please tell the duration of receiving the UCI number from the date of application/application received. I am tensed!!

Thanks & Regards,
Emon

So, on Aug 7, you have got the eligibility to be processed letter from CIC, is that correct? Or, your document just reached CIC on Aug 7?

If your file is accepted before completing the 300 cap (after CIC review the eligibility), you are good to go. No matters how long it take to get the UCI number.

Good luck!

It feels silly with the Turkish immigration staff behaviour. Sad to hear ZamanBhai's experience.

Dubai should be ok, I believe. But for the security procedure they are also tough, one has to open, shoes, belt, cap for scanning to go through, even my wife had to open the two silly metal heejab pins. the good thing is it's mandatory for everyone. Dhaka- Dubai part is usually covered with 2nd tier staff and low inboard service attitude, for the labor class travellers. But if accompanied with kids, they are usually keen and prompt. They provide kids meals and toys to keep them busy. the 2nd part of the journey would be better.

Dubai lounge is awesome, with loads of signs to help you not to get lost. for transit passengers with accommodation, staffs will be escorting all through. The problem is the long 2nd half with 14 hours flight with small kids, though the personal touchscreen TV with latest movies/games (award winning ICE) should be keeping kids, like my 7 years son, busy. They also have onboard plane, a duty free shop, n you can buy stuffs with cash dollars or credit cards. Free meals and drinks are unlimited. Airbus A380 has more leg space and pitch than regular boing777-800 ER.

And the last issue probably is the price, if bought from IOM, its more or less the same for both. Emirates gives 02 pcs 23 kilo luggage/ passenger, while Turkish offers 03 pcs 23 kilo/ passenger. If Turkish, I would have availed almost 96 kilos more for all 04 of us, And for this additional 23 kilo/ bag it costs additional 175 USD from Emirates. So decision is yours ;D.

Cheers

My landing experience, Part-2

At the transit area at Istanbul airport we again found another group of stony-faced officials who checked our passports and boarding card for Toronto flight, and let us in to the boarding area - felt like our ordeal is over for now. The in-flight service between Istanbul and Toronto was slightly better that that of our first leg but still without a smile. We landed at the Pearson airport in time. At the end of the boarding bridge two CBSA (or immigration) officials were checking the passports. They checked our ones and told us to go upstairs to the immigration areas. At the immigration area we found a staff maintaining the queue and giving information. She told us to go to the visitors queue and again there was no queue. She also showed us a counter which became free in a minute. It took only two/three minutes at the immigration. Here they look at the passport/visas/COPR and declaration form. The lady asked us about the amount of money we are carrying. She wrote down the figure on the declaration card and marked the whole card with highlighter. (Tip: your declaration card given on bard becomes a very important document until you come out of the airport). After immigration counter we were shown the room to go for the landing formalities. Again, there was no queue. A lady officer called us to her counter and asked for the documents. We handed our passports and COPR and a printed copy of the address we will be staying. She did not ask for any additional pictures as mentioned by one forum member. It took around 10 minutes to complete the formalities. (Tip: Taking a printed copy of the address and phone number is very useful. I got the info from a forum member). After the landing formalities we were told to go to another counter within the same room where we were given a bagful of information. The gentleman in the counter asked ask to talk to a lady in a kiosk outside the room. She gave us some more information. I told her that I heard that i can make the SIN card application at the airport. She told me that you can do it if you land in working days but our landing day was a Sunday. Up to this it went as smooth as silk. I did not keep the time but it did not take more that 20/25 minutes before going to the baggage collection. And we also noticed the difference between Istanbul airport and a Canadian airport. (Tip: During landing every time you ask for some information, first mention you are a new immigrant for landing). It will save you a lot of time. (More to follow in part-3)

As I can understand from other thread that the CAP for NOC 1112 has been filled by the end of May. So you will get your application package back in appx. 3-4 months.
