If you did not live in Alberta for at least 6 months in the 12 months after you got the health card, it is no longer valid, even if it doesn't have an expiry date. Those are the rules in all the provinces. If you leave, you lose your eligibility for health care. If you want to start fresh in Ontario, you will have to wait 3 months.

If you go to Alberta again, you should talk to AB health about if your health care is still valid. Usually they give people who are moving from different countries first day coverage anyway so you might be fine. You should however stay in AB for at least 6 months because if you have the baby on their health care and then run off again, they might see it as abuse of the system. I know of BC having back charged a woman for the delivery of her baby because she did not stay in BC for 6 months.

Hi kiona...
Just asking you because you lived in Alberta for some time.
do we need to pay health premiums if we need to get health facilities.
Currently, I am in BC and in BC, health premiums are sky rocketing. I am planning to move to Alberta and will appreciate your response/reply on how Alberta health system works.
My questions are?
1. do we need to pay any additional cost to receive health facilities?
2. any waiting period to enroll in?
3. if any premiums? how they decide?
Thanks.

Alberta does not have health care premiums but Alberta also does not have Pharmacare. Most employers will however offer you a low cost supplementary health insurance to cover a percentage of your dental and medication.

alberta health care is free for all residents of alberta so you pay nothing. But if you have medications, there are only a select few that are free and covered under AHC. You have to pay out of pocket for meds, unless your work has some sort of benefit plan for that.
IF you're moving from BC, your coverage will begin on the 1st day of the 3rd month following the date of you arrival into AB.

info is on this site...
