Hey everyone. I am brand new to the forum. I created my EE profile in July and got a message two days ago that Alberta is interested in nominating me.

Although it's not my first choice (I'd rather live in Ontario), I wonder if it would be unwise to let this opportunity go especially because IRCC is not conducting any draws for FSW applicants right now.

I'd love some guidance on the following:

- My primary NOC field is Mechanical Engineering, but I do not plan to work as an engineer after graduating from the MBA program I am currently in. Am I obligated to work in the field of my primary NOC if I accept Alberta's NOI?
- I'm trying to understand if I need to maintain a minimum residency term in Alberta before moving to another province. I couldn't find much information on this online.
- My understanding is that I have two weeks to reply to the NOI before it expires. Is that correct?
- How long does the PNP process take, on average? I realize there are tons of variables at play, but assuming a "normal" pace of progression, is it realistic to expect landing in Canada by the end of the year if I accept the NOI today?

Thank you.
Congrats for receiving Alberta NOI. Hope the below information helps.
1. Primary NOC - Authorities use this NOC to gauge your eligibility for immigration and the PNP nomination. Once you are in Canada you can choose any job that you want and not necessary that you need to be in same NOC. So no obligations that you need to work in the same occupation once you are in Canada.
2. If you are getting PR as a PNP nominee then you need to get the provincial clearance if you have to migrate from Alberta to other province. You may have to prove to the Alberta province that you have tried to settle there but you have some solid reason you are choosing to move out from Alberta. They have such regulations to protect their own interests. And in some cases, they may even revoke the PR if they found that you have migrated without a solid reason.
3. Please check the mail from the AINP that you have received in the EE profile for deadlines.
4. It varies case to case basis.

Please decide wisely if Alberta is the place where you want to settle down before proceeding further.

Pre-Covid it used to happen within 6 months time. With the current pandemic situation it is very uncertain.

Thank you very much for your reply. Very helpful! I am glad that I won't have to work in my primary NOC because I am looking to pivot my career toward general management roles.

I have a few follow-up questions, if you don't mind:

- The provincial clearance thing is interesting. I tried looking it up online but couldn't seem to find much on it. Is there a resource you could link me to with more information?
- My understanding after some surface-level Googling is that once you get your PR card, you are basically free to move anywhere within Canada under the Freedom of Mobility clause of their Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Maybe it doesn't apply to PNP PRs?
- I confirmed that I indeed only have two weeks to reply to the NOI. Assuming they invite me to apply, how long do I have to submit my documents?
- Would it be an issue if ~2 years of my work experience is in my primary NOC and ~1.5 years under a different NOC? I got promoted from Engineering to Sales Management at my place of work, and am wondering if this would be an issue with my application.
- How important is it to have maintained the min. account balance in the past 6 months? I have moved around a lot in the last year and haven't kept that minimum balance in my personal account. I found out that there's a workaround to this where you can get money from your family along with a declaration letter that they are giving you that money as a gift and do not expect repayment. Is that legit?

Thank you once again for your help! I'm trying to make sure I don't rush my decision. I have a decent CRS (476) but don't want to be in a situation where I let this go and FSW draws don't resume in the near future. Cheers!

Hi Jaskaran,
Congrats on the invite!

Email response from Alberta Immigration and Labour services on the same query.

The AINP will consider individuals who do not have registration/licensing/certification in Alberta. Although not a requirement, demonstrating they have started the process can be beneficial. It is expected that once an individual arrives in Alberta they will complete the registration/licensing/certification needed for their occupation.

Internationally trained engineers that want to use a professional designation in Alberta must be licensed as a Foreign Licensee (Engineering) by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). APEGA is the body that has the authority and responsibility to regulate the practice of engineering in Alberta.

Please visit the Alberta Learning Information Service website for information regarding occupational profiles in Alberta. This includes information on educational requirements, wages, employment & advancement, and certification requirements.
Then in this case, what do would I need to upload in the mandatory document upload section for license?

Can you share screenshot of the email which was sent to your employer? Also what does alberta expects in response? A simple Approval or documents?

Although the website does not specifically say that electronic signs are not acceptable. But why cant you get hand signature?
Because of covid. Most of the staff are at home and at the moment they can only provide digital signatures nowadays.

Please guys I need your advice regarding an issue I recently noticed in my application. It turned out that I submitted a reference letter for my current noc rather than the noc for which I was given an NOI for. Do I send an email submitting a new reference letter for that NOC and a letter of explanation attached to it or do I be silent about it till the assessing officer requests the information? I am so scared at this point, I can’t believe I made this error and I don’t like misrepresentation at all.

The assessing officer had requested for proof of documents for my sibling. On the checklist it was not one of the documents to provide as my sibling is not in Alberta. I hope this isn’t bad luck.
