You can have both of those. If you are eligible to apply EE, Just Try ASAP.
Express Entry might be more faster than your current AINP application.

Hi,

I applied for PR through AINP in June 2014 and received my file number in August. I haven't from them since. I want to apply through EE- CEC but am not sure if I can have an EE profile and an AINP application going at the same time. I dont want lie and misrepresent facts but the AINP website itself says the following..."Many Alberta provincial nominees are asking if they can use their Alberta nomination for Express Entry. An AINP certificate of nomination cannot be used for Express Entry. If you have created an Express Entry profile, do not indicate that you are an Alberta Provincial Nominee."

So..can I have an AINP application and EE Profile too?

My next question is about the 1 year work requirement. I held a full time job (NOC A) for five months, was unemployed for 1 1/2 month and am now into month 6 of a 14 month contract (Full -time, NOC A). Should I be worried about the 1 1/2 month gap between jobs or do I meet the 1 year full time employed requirement once I finish month 7 of my contract?

Also, I strongly believe that my employer will offer me a permanent job once my contract is done (fingers crossed), will I still need an LMIA? If yes how do I go about asking my employer for one?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you :)

Hi waraich90/Mosaic,

From the perspective of applying for both EE and AINP, I would say 'go for it!'. I applied last year in May for AINP nomination and heard back from them n March that they needed copies of my previous work permits and then they extended my WP for another year. I anticipate nomination from them in the fall-possibly?
With regards to EE, I had nothing to declare in respect of 'have you received a nomination from a Province' because at the time I applied, I hadn't and to date still haven't. I'm not breaking any rules to my knowledge and I haven't seen any posts here to tell me anything different.
I may attract controversy from some who might say that I'm taking a place that somebody else could use, my reply to that is along the lines of 'I'm waiting to become a resident just like anybody else. If I'm breaking any rules then I won't be the only one getting my legs slapped'.
In short Mosaic/waraich90, use every option you have.

In regards to the gap in work, I believe that it is based on hours so if you were working 12 hour days, 21 days on and 5 off you would probably be safe. The math works out at something like 1,920 hours in a standard working year where you have 4 weeks vacation and work a 40 hour week for the rest of the year. It may well be that you are very close right now and by the time you get your AOR, you will qualify so don't lose heart in that respect.

Your LMIA would depend (I believe-moderators please step in here if I'm off the mark)on your work permit. Mine is specific to my job so I do need an LMIA but if your on an open WP, you may not need one? A contract from your employer would certainly help as you will be required to show letters of employment for both past and present employers and the current employer will need to state how long your present employment is for.

Good luck to both of you. 8)

I am also in the same position as you. I have applied for AINP nomination and just about to apply for express entry. I understand that if the nomination gets granted, we get another 600 points, is this correct?

Do you know if the hours requirement counts overtime? I work in tax, so including overtime, I will have done approximately 1,000 hours this year already. My thought are, that this would mean me hitting the total 1,920 requirement after approximately 10 months if this was the case.

First of all AINP CAN NOT be used in EE to get 600 points, because Alberta haven't launched EE stream for their nominations. Also just a small part of other provinces nominations are good for EE, so most of all PNP still has to go through paper PR application.

To have 1 year CEC you have to have 52 weeks of employment. Even if you have more hours that it is required it doesn't matter if you do not have 52 weeks. Full time they count as 30 hours per week, doesn't matter if you work over time or 40 hours a week. First CIC will count if you have 52 weeks and then if you have enough hours.

Thanks for clearing that up Monija.

jpfyoung; The only thing you'll get 600 points for is guaranteed employment offer, supported by a letter from your Manager.

Good luck with your application.

To get 600 points you need special EE PNP (not from Alberta, it's not part of EE) or a job offer with valid LMIA, just a job offer with managers letter is not enough.

Thanks.

All being well I should have around 500 points without anyway, so fingers crossed the required points drops below 500 again!

Thank you all for answering my questions! :). I did speak to someone from AINP and was told that I will not receive 600 points if I am nominated by the province of Alberta, she also said that I can have a EE and AINP application running at the same time, it is not at all against the law. She just requested that if I do decide to go the EE route and receive an Invitation to Apply and subsequently PR, to inform them so they can withdraw my application and free up a spot.

Also, I found on the EE website it says that if you are currently working on an open post graduate work permit, you don't necessarily require an LMIA from your employer to be issued an invitation to apply. However if you do receive an LMIA, it can improve your chances of receiving an ITA as this would contribute an additional 600 points towards your ranking.

Hi Mosaic,

I guess that you applied through Post Graduate Worker Stream for AINP? I was under the impression that the processing times were a lot faster! You applied in June 2014 and still don't have a nomination?

Yup. Unfortunately, I haven't heard back from them yet. Not sure why? Anyone in the same boat as me?

Hi All,

Just an update, I received a call from AINP this Monday (Finally!!), they called to verify the info I provided in my application and said they would call my employer to verify employment details. They said I should hear back from me in two weeks. Fingers crossed!
