hi everyone,

I live currently in Gatineau (quebec) and my wife is sponsoring me at the moment. She obviously lives with me in Gatineau.

I have a post graduation work permit that expires in March 2020. What should I do before it expires ? I know I am not eligible for the bridging work permit since my application is under sponsorship AND I live in Quebec.

Thank you in advance for your answer

BOWP (bridging open work permit) - assuming you are being sponsored inland vs. outland.

Thank you for taking the time to answer however I said that I am not eligible for that because sponsorship is not in the eligibility criterias AND I live in quebec, with my wife. We live in Canada and work in Canada.

That doesn't make sense. Everyone qualifies regardless of where they are living as long as it's an inland sponsorship application.

If you applied through the Provincial Nominee Program and have employment restrictions as conditions of your nomination, you can’t get a bridging open work permit.

When you apply, you must:

  • select “Open Work Permit” as the type of work permit
  • pay the work permit processing fee and the Open Work Permit Holder fee.
Quebec residents are not eligible for a bridging open work permit. Instead, if you hold a valid Certificat de sélection du Québec, you may be eligible for an employer-specific work permit under Labour Market Exemption code A75.”

If it is inland sponsorship you can get open work permit as long as you have a valid status in Canada. It doesn't matter which province you.
