ADVICE PLEASE

Hello.

I'm Jeff. I sent my application for my Japanese wife's PR two days ago. We were planning on arriving in Canada next year around June. However, my wife and I might need to go back to Canada sooner, maybe by December as a closer member in my family has just been diagnosed with an illness that might be terminal.

Question: What should I tell the immigration officer at Vancouver when we land? Is it possible that my wife could still receive her PR from Canada after starting the process in Japan already? I need some good, sound advice..any advice will be helpful!

Tell them the truth. But do NOT say your wife is staying with you for good. She's coming for a visit, you're moving here. And yes, she can still get PR from Canada outland-wise even though she's in Canada. Just a word of warning, she can be denied entry to Canada if she does not have ties back in Japan (a job, lease, etc) and the border official doesn't believe she will leave. I'm not sure if you need a visa to visit Canada as a Japanese citizen, if you do, it might be extremely difficult to get one.

thank you for the reply. Japanese citizens do not need a visa to visit Canada - Japan is a visa exempt country. The reason I asked my question is that we were wondering if my wife could come with me and then stay with me in Canada till her visa is processed. I do not want to, but on the other hand, I would like it if my wife could come with me. Is there anyone on this forum that has done what I want to do?

Yes there is people who did that, living together while their application is processed.

I don't know nothing about consequences though.

I saw people on this forum with out being from a a visa exempt country and still they obtained a visa very easaly while their file was in the process for PR.

Your wife could live with you in Canada for 6 months I guess with out a visa.

She can accompany you. If you have your sponsor approval letter by then, have it with you. Explain you want her to visit until her PR is decided, and make it clear that she is not moving in, she is also accompanying you to be with you during a challenging time.
