Hi All,

Thank you for taking the time in viewing my post. I have a problem that I believe that I'm about to face in the next few months.

I am currently at 461 points and the points will jump upto about 474 points in late October, 2016. The reason for this would probably be that I've been working 37.5 hours since January 2015 and therefore, according to CEC category, I complete hours of work equivalent to 2 years. In terms of duration, I officially complete 2 years experience in January 2017. If I receive an invitation, I dont know if I rightfully qualify. Also, I'm planning on switching jobs to find something better and don't know if its a safe move considering the fact that my work permit expires in November'17. I'm looking to move out west provided, I get a better job. Please advice, if the point increase would work correctly in my favour ? ;)

Even if you worked 60h/week for a year it still counts as a year.

See http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/perm/definitions.asp?letterNum=6

Note: Work in excess of 30 hours/37.5 hours of paid work over a period of one week cannot compensate for less than one year of full-time work experience.

IRCC provides the hourly equivalent only for part-time workers. If you work full time (at least 30 hours per week), then you simply need to count the weeks/years. If you will complete 24 months on January XX, 2017, that is when you will be eligible for the points for the 2nd year, not before.

Note that because the EE system only looks at month and year (not the actual day), it is possible to get the point increase before you have completed the 2nd year. This is a system glitch - if you were to get an ITA based on points for which you were not actually eligible, it would lead to a refusal down the line, and you should decline the ITA until you have completed the time.

Thank you so much both you guys explained it well. I also looked up the information on the link provided and I completely understand how the rules have been there just not transparent enough. But, I understand the concept of the weeks and will plan to work according to that. Thank you ! All the best to you both.
