Hi.

My husband and I just got married Feb 2016 here in the Philippines. I currently live in the Philippines and he is in Vancouver. We are still in the process of collecting all the paperwork needed before we submit the application for spouse sponsorship.

My company is open for me to transfer to Canada with the same work that I am doing here in Manila. In an email, they said : "As you complete your paperwork for your move to Canada, you will need to obtain a work authorization. Once you have that, let us know and we will take it from there."

I have been searching/reading on the CIC website and all I find is on open work permits for inland spousal sponsorship applications or temporary work permit which means, I will have to go back. I am getting confused on all the stuff that I am reading.

Hoping someone can give an advise on what my company means on work authorization or on how to go about this matter. Any help is highly appreciated.

Basically, if you apply outland, you cant get a work permit unless you are either eligible for the IEC working holiday, or until your PR application has been approved and you land.

If you apply inland you can submit a work permit application which normally gets processed within 4-6 months.

Your work is saying that if you can get a work permit they will give you a job.

Inland requires you to apply where you are physically resident in canada, and generally it is advised against entering and re-entering canada. so youd need to get there on a visitor visa, apply for the pr inland and then wait 4-6 months for authorization to work.

or go outland, which is generally quicker.

Sorry but what is IEC working holiday?

If you are from the Philippines (i.e. this is the passport you hold) then you don't qualify for an IEC. An IEC is a working holiday visa for people below a specific age that allows you to work in Canada for six months to two years without obtaining a job offer first or LMIA. Anyway - not relevant if you're from the Philippines since the Philippines isn't one of the qualifying countries for this program.

If you want to be authorized to work in Canada before you have PR, your company in Canada will have to obtain an approved LMIA and you will then have to apply for a closed work permit.
