Hello,

I applied for a TRV in May 2015 - by mail to the Embassy in Vienna, and just over 3 weeks since they received my application, I received an email from the embassy requesting additional information regarding my military history, and a detailed CV of my education/employment history.

While it seems understandable that they would want more information about my military service (was mandatory in my country and mine took place while my country was involved in a war, the CV is slightly confusing. I don't really know how much detail they want- as CVs are usually written in bullet point...

Actually the whole thing is confusing and I don't know what to make of it. It is already past the average processing time for vienna, however I imagine that if they're requesting additional information- it would be a good thing (??) because otherwise they would just deny it.

If anyone else has had a similar situation I would appreciate to hear about it.

Hi,

It's possible that CIC wants additional information about your military service to ascertain whether or not you were not involved in any war crimes, crimes against humanity or genocide.

As for your CV, I think CIC wants to know the position/authority that you held during your military tenure + if you rose through the ranks to become a senior official + details of the work you did/assignments/official postings, etc especially during the war

Although each case is unique/different, you may want to see this link (especially my first and last posts on the thread)..... it could give you suggestions for preparing the information sought by CIC:

All the best :)

Thanks Bryanna.

I do understand why they would want to verify my military functions/activities for those reasons. However, I am not employed by the military- I work as a civil servant. My military service lasted only 1 year and took place over 20years ago (I was 18). Given that they asked for me to fill out a specific form pertaining to my military service, and a photocopy + translation of my military booklet- I didn't plan on including (repeating) that information in my CV (since they asked for employment and education history).

The visa office may obtain evidence for military-related matters (especially during a war) from various sources.... perhaps, CIC wants to cross-verify this information, and hence, the request for additional information/your CV.

You must provide any and all information requested by CIC along with supporting evidence.

As you served in the military for only 1 year (more than 20 years ago), you may want to state it was mandatory to get enlisted in the army in your country.... you did not hold any position of authority.... you were not aware of nor was there any complicity in war crimes.... and you were not involved in any armed conflict (if this is the case).

You may want to provide a detailed CV (including your education).... starting from your military service to your present employment.... and substantiate your employment history with evidence, particularly for the years immediately after you left military service + evidence of your qualifications.

You may also want to submit the Discharge Certificate from the military

Hope this helps :)
