It takes 10-12 days to get the form? Crap.. My FBI clearance expires 27th.. If I can't get it before that what do you recommend I do?? Include 12 months of pay stubs?? How hard is it to get the notice of assessment?? How many days does that take? I'm starting to panic a bit.

it may come in less time, CRA just says it takes 10-14 days. you don't want the notice of assessment, you want the Option C. I would think the NOA would take just as long since it's a document you are requesting from CRA. I suggest your husband call RIGHT NOW and order the Option C form.

If your husband can produce 12 months of paystubs, then use that and write an explanation, as per the instructions.

You can always send in the FBI clearance with a note saying you've ordered an updated one, and will send it as soon as it's in. Or you can just order a new one and wait for that and the Option C form.

This happens to the best of us... our application submission was delayed 6 weeks because we had to wait for my husband's taxes to be finalized and then order the option c. at least your husband has his taxes filed already!

Hmm we'll have to figure it all out. That's what you get when you assume that something will be enough..

At least you found this forum and got some helpful advice *before* submitting your app. I found the forum *after*. And I got to clean up some pretty messy mistakes. Good luck!

agreeing with rhcohen. DO NOT ask for a notice of assessment, this is not the same thing and will not be accepted. You need the Option C printout.

I would just order another FBI Clearance if you think it might expire before you get the Option C Printout.

There's nothing you can do, only learn from mistakes.

I didn't notice that the forms from the website are periodically updated and sent my entire application in with outdated forms. I'm still waiting to hear anything from CIC to see if they will accept the application and request the updated forms, or if they will just mail the entire thing back to me. Everyone makes mistakes. Be thankful that you didn't send it in how it was and find out afterwards, like I did.

an NoA is automatically sent to you by CRA shortly after you file your taxes. If you don't already have one, then just ask for an Option C instead as rhcohen already suggested since that is what CIC really wants. They may or may not take the NoA by itself but they WILL accept the Option C.

Ok.. so I made corrections on what we're including (those two forms where you asked who told me to put those, I got confused about and now that I talked to the person again, they're not needed)...I also took out all the forms that are not needed (like the 5406 for my husband), his birth certificate (since we are including his passport).. and going to put some of the proof for 5490 with my part of application but also include more in the proof folder with everything else.

Also, we decided to send everything in, and include a letter explaining our mistake for not including Option C (honest mistake), saying we will send it when we get it in the mail, T4, notice of assessment (which we actually have), and 12 months of pay stubs. When we called today for the Option C prinout, they said 10 days, so my FBI clearance WILL expire.

If they decide to return the application, so be it. We are going to be honest, and try to send whatever we can, and send the missing document when we get it.

most likely they aren't going to return it, they will just send a letter requesting the missing documents and give you a certain length of time to complete the request before returning the application. if they find the application to be incomplete, it will delay aor and sponsorship approval.

That's not a problem (sending in the missing document), we requested it today. Will send it in as soon as we get it. I was just scared they will return everything. Luckily, we have everything else so nothing else should be a problem.

Thank you again to everyone that was kind enough to reply. Even though we DID make a mistake, I feel better knowing how to handle it.

Just to let you know, when I found out that my forms were outdated I called CIC to ask them if I could just mail them the correct forms ASAP and have them added to my file. My response was 'absolutely not.' Until I have received an AOR I am not to send in any additional documents or anything, regardless of the reason why. A mistake is a mistake and he told me all I can do is wait and see whether they reject the application or not.

So even when you get the Option C printout in the mail, DO NOT send it to CIC until you receive your AOR. Chances are you, if you receive AOR instead of getting the application returned to you, they will request that you send them the option C printout. When you receive this request you can scan and e-mail them a copy immediately and put the original in the mail for priority next day. What you are trying to avoid here is for them to send in a request to check if your Sponsor has been collecting welfare. They can see immediately by looking at the option C printout whether or not he has been, without it they might decide to do check themselves, this could delay your sponsorship approval for up to 60 days.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Ok, so we will wait for the notice. Noted.

Basically without a File Number for the application, it is a crapshoot if CIC is able to associate any additional documentation you send in with your original application. You get this file number with AOR or SA (Sponsor Approval). The File Number is very important for CIC to keep track of your application. They want you to provide it with any correspondence with CIC.

Ok, so let's say, I wait for the Option C to get here by mail.. and my FBI thing has expired and I write "oh, I requested another one".. I STILL can't send it in to be included because once I send everything it, I can't touch it till they send me some sort of letter.... am I correct???

So I have few options:

A) sending in the current FBI and whatever I have now WITHOUT the Option C and wait for a notice saying they want it.
B) wait for the Option C by mail and redo my FBI (which will take about 2.5 weeks from what I remember)
C) wait for Option C by mail and send in my FBI expired and wait for them to send me a notice saying they want a new one.

Re-read the requirement if an option c form is not available to double check what they will accept. I believe it's on the sponsor checklist.
if you can actually send the 12 month of paystubs that I believe can be used as an alternative, i would send that now, and still apply for a new FBI record just in case (current processing time is 26 days). This way IF they don't accept it as complete, and they request an option c and new record, you will have them ready. we got our letter for missing documents 2 weeks after they received our application, and they gave us 45 days to send it in. I don't think they will send an aor until the application is considered complete.

so my vote is to send what you have, and see what happens OR wait for everything to be complete and send it then.

it comes down to if you'd rather know it's complete when you send it in, or hope they accept what you send... and that's a decision only you and your husband can make.

Kasia, I just scanned your thread and my advice is still the same. If you don't get your Option C print out before the 26th, send in your application without the Option C. Include the 12 months of paycheck stubs, your husbands NoA and a letter explaining the situation and telling them that you have ordered the Option C prinout and will send it in once you receive a file number and everything should be fine. :)

Also you can send in the current FBI check with a note that you've requested a more recent one and are waiting to receive it. We sent in our application (my husband is American) without any FBI check and just a note saying we're waiting for it and will send it when we get it. We then sent it to the Ottawa office where it was received and put with our file.
