Hi.
My question is related to sponsorship of the parents. Actually I am asking if in a sponsorship application for parents, the parents have a dependent child over 22 years of age and the child is continuing her studies before the age of 22 and after that but the study finishes for example at the age of 24 and the child continues another full-time post secondary study immediately. Is it OK at first to continue studies? And is there a specific criteria for the subject of the study that she continues other than being full-time and post-secondary? For example if the first program is a bachelors the other one must be masters or for example if the first one is computer science the other one must be computer science as well?
Thanks,

If the child is 22 or older on the date the application is received by CPC-M, they must have been in full time education since turning 22, and remain in full time studies until the date the PR visa is issued. Normal holidays (e.g. university summer holidays) do not count as leaving education. Beyond that, it doesn't matter what program they are taking. They could switch to a masters, then a PhD, or even take a new undergraduate degree in another discipline, but as long as they remain in full time education, dependent on the parents, that's the important thing.

Also, they cannot get married, or enter into a common-law relationship.

I have 2 other questions.
1- the child was not 22 when the application is received and she was studying. Now should she study?
2- What is the definition of full time student for graduate and undergraduate?
Thanks,

1. The child's age is locked in upon receipt of the application by CIC. It doesn't matter if she studies or not. But she must remain a dependent and should not get married.
2. 15 hours of class time per week.
