A new year, but still no draws

No warning beforehand, no explanation afterward, no prediction for the future, it just stopped, for 4 months by now.

10 months ago even applicants with 60+ CRS were invited, now even those with a 500+ score have to leave the country due to expired work permits.

This is not how TRs should be treated. They must have given up their original lives and spent tens of thousands dollars on study and living in Canada.

They made the decision based on the announced policy, and a policy should be fair, consistent and predictable, not ramped up on a whim and stopped abruptly on another.

FSW have been waiting for a longer period of time, but they are continuing their own livies in their own countries. They don't need to worry about being deported.

CEC has been suspended for only 4 months, but you can already see multiple posts in this forum about people having to leave Canada due to expired work permits.

If you really need PR, PNP is the way right now. That is not blocked. Having a Canadian job and experience will make it easier to get PNP.

Work permits are always temporary and when you take one, have an expectation to return to your home country when its ending. Neither PR nor extension are guaranteed. I mean having experience in Canada and Canadian job offer already puts you ahead in the curve as par as PR goes.

Yes, you can work until the extension is processed and IRCC communicates a decision. If someone applies for an extension but doesn't qualify for one, then they fall out of status in Canada once they are refused and then have to apply for restoration.

If they managed to get ITA and submit their application while they are on implied status, they will not qualify for a BOWP since the extension will ultimately end up being refused and a condition of the BOWP is that you be holding a valid work permit at the time you apply.

So those are the complications.

There's also no guarantee that the draws will be CEC specific when and if draws do in fact resume. It's possible IRCC may revert to general draws only. This won't be an issue for you since you have a high score. But it would be a problem for others who don't have scores high enough to compete with FSW applicants.

Anyway, who knows what's going to happen. There's generally a pause like this every few years when immigration programs are changed / revamped. So it was expected this would happen sooner rather than later. It always sucks for those impacted. At least this time they didn't cancel a ton of applications like they did when EE was introduced.
