Hello everyone,

Just wondering if you could give me an insight into my plan to get PR before I graduate?. I am in my 3rd year of Ph.D., I also working as a TA and RA in the same university. For additional information, I have more than 15-year teaching experience in my back home. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello everyone,

Just wondering if you could give me an insight into my plan to get PR before I graduate?. I am in my 3rd year of Ph.D., I also working as a TA and RA in the same university. What are your questions?

Can I apply PR as a student?
But of course. Do you currently have any degrees? Which ones? From which university(ies)?

With your 15-year teaching experience, did you have at least one year of continuous work? If so, then you max out that category on the CRS.

How old are you? Ideally you should be under 30, once you hit 30 you start losing 5 points per year (approx.)

Do you have the required funds? If you are single then CAD$13000 should be enough.

Have you taken the language tests? What's your CLB?

@thephdguy Thanks so much for your response. I have a master's degree from my hometown, not in Canada.
Three years ago, I and my family moved to Canada since I was accepted at the University of Waterloo.
In my 15 years of teaching experience, I work in the same area of work also in the same place.
It's sad to hear that I lose 5 points every year because I'm 42 years old now.
Yes, I heard about funding terms. If I have a family, then I must have at least $ 24,000?.
I have taken IELTS for my language test, never try CLB. However, I will find out about CLB too.

How many points do you have under Express Entry? Right now you need to have around 470 points to be selected under Express Entry directly.

oh thanks just found out about the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) and the link from IRCC

I only got 420

This won't be enough to be selected. Your age is certainly dragging your score down. You'll need to increase your points if you want to apply through Express Entry directly.

The alternative is to look into the PNP programs.

I recommend that you research Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) to see if you are eligible to apply to one of them. Obtaining a Provincial Nomination is an instant +600 CRS points, guaranteeing you an Invitation To Apply (ITA). Good luck!
