Hey guys,
I'm having a momentary panic attack here and am worried that I may have calculated incorrectly! Am hoping that someone can either talk me off my ledge or put me out of my misery.
I just read that for citizenship, you must be a permanent resident for three years before being eligible to apply? I know that you had to be physically present in Canada for 3/5, and I have been in Canada for five years this June, but do you actually have to have legit permanent residency for three full years? I filled out the "Check Eligibility" form on CIC's website and said no to the question of "Have you been a permanent resident, and physically present in Canada for at least 3 out of the last 5 years", and then it asks if I've lived in Canada with temporary resident status in the last five years, which I said yes to. Then it asks if I've been a permanent resident and physically present in Canada for at least 2 out of the last 5 years, which I said yes on. The eligibility thing says that I'm "probably" eligible for citizenship.
From June 2013-June 2014 I had a temporary foreign worker permit, and then the gap between June 2014 and January 2016 I had a temporary resident permit. I received my PR on January 3rd, 2016.
I filled out the physical presence calculator and it says that I am eligible to apply as of the beginning of March, but I have only been a permanent resident for just over two years. I know that for physical presence you can count each day before your PR as a half day (up to 365 days), but does that also fulfill that third year of necessary permanent residency?
Thanks so much - sorry for the wall of text but I'm losing it at the moment!
