Congratulations to everyone who has received FD, P1, P2, ECORP and Card from 2025, 2024, 2023 and 2022..

I have a friend from my home country. He applied for refugee in Nov 2023. received NOD in Jul 2024, applied for PR in Aug 2024, received P1 2 weeks ago, this week he received P2, and soon will hopefully be receiving ECORP. His whole journey from when he submitted his refugee claim until he is now almost PR is 2.5 years, almost 31 months from the very start point of the refugee claim until he is PR. No representative for him throughout the refugee and PR process....

Is he 'lucky'? Definitely.

In comparison, it took me 2 years (24 months) to receive NOD. It is almost 11 months since I applied for PR, only received AOR so far, then checklist to re-submit forms and supporting documents, but no BIL, nothing else..

Our situation is very similar. We come from the same country. We have lived in the same 3rd country for years. Still, the processing journey is way too different. I know another guy from our home country, also he lived in the same 3rd country, it took him almost 33 months to received NOD alone!!!

Is this the 'normal' processing time? Noooo!!

Usually, and this is specifically true from 2023 onward, the 'normal' processing time for a refugee claim is +2 years, and it is very 'normal' to wait up to 3 years or even more.

There is the 2023 Refugee Claim thread, there are people who applied in May 2023 and August 2023 and they still have not received a hearing date. Personally, I know another guy who submitted his refugee claim in Dec 2022 and only Feb 2026 he received NOD. Yes, over 3 years..

As for the PR journey, we still have people outside QC who applied for PR in 2022 and are still stuck!!

Here, the 2025 thread, it is really nice to see some people who have confirmed that they have received P1, P2, etc. (meaning it took them only 15-16 months to conclude the whole PR process)..

It is useless to try to compare one case to another. We will never come to understand how and why certain files move much faster than others.. Is it because of the officer handling the file? The complexity of the file? The load on the processing office? Waiting for other agencies to finish their job and provide security clearance?

Maybe... Maybe any of these reasons, maybe other reasons.. maybe it is just 'luck'!!

Dealing with all of this, we (especially those with really long wait periods) can allow ourselves to feel frustrated, angry, hopeless, desperate, etc. Unfortunately, this all will not help process our files. It will only cause us to suffer more. Alternatively, we can simply accept this as part of the 'game', as part of life itself. Spending time overthinking, worrying, comparing, lamenting, accusing people of lying, etc.. this all is a perfect recipe for self-destruction.

This was perfectly written. I still visit the 2023 thread and feel sad seeing people waiting for BIL since 2023! Even some are still waiting from 2022. Nobody can explain how IRCC prioritizes the applications. All everyone can do is hope and pray for the best. I’m glad and sincerely grateful I’m done with this phase of my life.
