Hi there, today the Immigration minister announced he will be accepting up to 30,000 applications this year for parental sponsorship starting September 20. Is it at that time that we will get the 2021 interest to sponsor form on the website or we have to request for it? I can't seem to find it online. Thanks for answering.

There is no interest form this year.

They are going to do the draw out of the pool of 2020 applicants who weren't selected last year.

If you entered the 2020 draw and weren't selected, then you're already in the draw for 2021 / this year.

If you didn't enter the 2020 draw, then you aren't eligible for this year's draw and will need to wait until next year.

Thanks Scylla for the quick reply.
I have a question for you. I am a PR and my wife and 2 kids all PRs. She is pregnant. We intend to bring over my mum to Canada to support us throughout the pregnancy. My mum depends on us 100% for financial support since dad passed away in 2013. Only ties she has back home is my other siblings and our family house. We want her here, and if possible, for a long period. We were looking to apply for the parental Sponsorship announced today but seems only those who submitted interests in 2020 will be considered. We are therefore planning to get her a Visitor visa in the meantime. Do you suggest we go in for a regular Visitor Visa or the Super Visa and why? Thank you for reading and helping us through this.

Super visa would allow your mother to remain in Canada for a maximum of 2 years without leaving or re-newing at time. Regular visa only allow up to 6 months, then you would need to apply for extension or have to leave the country (and come back again at later stage)

This is so ridiculous - I did not apply in 2020 since I didn’t have my three years tax returns . I have them now but now I’m not considered because I didn’t apply then . This is such a dumb system . Do you have any idea when they will have the intent to apply for 2021

They may have one for 2022. I don't think they will create the intent to apply page for 2021.

They won't.

The 2021 lottery is going to be taking from the 2020 applicants still in the pool.

You'll need to wait until 2022.

Even if the PGP 2021 is open for new applicants, application of PR sponsorship won't be done before your baby is born anyway.

I think in this case, Super Visa make sense. You need to show that you have enough income to support her. Also will need to get health insurnace for her.
With super visa, she could stay with you guys up to 2 years at a time and bond with the grand children.

The same tax returns were likely required for this draw so you aren’t actually missing out on anything. Likely one of the reasons they are using the same EOI.
