Hello fellow January 2015 Outland Spousal Applicants!

I'm excited to be on this journey with someone other than my partner for the next (hopefully not) 33 months  according to my application center of New York.

I'm trying to hit the 10 post minimum so I can update my profile.

When I was putting together my application in November, the current part 1 Sponsor Approval time was only 30 days. Does anyone know why the time has almost tripled in the past 2 months? It's at 85 days now.

The processing time for stage 1 has a few factors

1. Staff take vacation days in December
2. In January a lot of other immigration schemes open up so some people who would normally do sponsorship approvals are pulled to other departments to help out
3. The processing time is directly tied to the number of applications so it is safe to say that in the last few months the number of people applying has increased.

Remember that the whole process takes months, possibly over a year. It is annoying that the time for stage 1 is high but the overall processing time is a lot longer than 85 days, so why worry over something which you knew would take a long time anyway?

Actually no one knows whats going on there. But let's just hope its faster than the date they indicated on the website. Some assume that a lot of applications have been received during the holidays and they are trying to fast track all their back logs. But based on some of the thread I've read particularly on November 2014 applications.. most of the first week of Nov applicants started receiving their AORs already.. so let's just pray and be positive that they are really getting back on their track and hopefully the days of waiting will lessen..

hopefully mine gets approved in 6 or 7 month as most outland u.s applicants
Hi! I'm also a U.S. applicant. My partner and I chose to do Outland because it was "faster in the long run" according to a lot of advice and google searches. But the 33 month wait for the NYC visa office applicants is really off-putting. How did you learn that it takes 6-7 months for most U.S. Outland applicants?

Hi Andrew-Brit,

Ahh, very good answers; I'm less baffled now.

I'm actually not too worried about the extra SA time, just curious as to what the factors are that affect this stage, and you very nicely answered that question for me :).

But I am put off by the 33-month processing time for U.S. applicants. I live in Germany but am a US citizen, so I had a choice over New York or Vienna as my office. NY is 33 months while Vienna is 17, but I gambled and chose New York as people are saying (despite CIC's processing time) it takes 6-9 months. So less than one year and almost 3 years is a big waiting time gap that I am worried about.

Err, applications for a US citizen applying outland go to Ottawa, not New York. I believe if an application is found to be fraudulent or an interview is needed then the case is shipped to LA or NY, but other members with knowledge of US applicants will know better.

Your application will go to Mississauga for stage 1 and then either be sent to Ottawa, or will stay in Mississauga for the entire process.

How exciting! I've been obsessively refreshing my DHL Track and Trace page. My application is with the courier now, so it should arrive any moment now!

Oh. Hmm... Then those processing time estimates for Los Angeles and New York are for the applicants who are requested an interview?

As I said I am not sure but I know that if you do have to go for an interview as a US applicant you go to LA or NY. rhcohen on the forum is an expert on US applicants applying, maybe reach out to them?

If your application has the required info, no red flags, etc then your application will stay in Canada and you should sail through, roughly 6-7 months total processing time is the current average.

Anyone see this update?
Makes you want to switch to inland process after all.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse.asp
Effective December 22, 2014, eligible spouses or common-law partners have the opportunity to work in Canada while they wait for their application for permanent residence to be processed.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will issue open work permits to certain spouses or common-law partners who are applying for permanent residence from inside Canada, before the approval in principle decision on their application is made.

For more information and instructions on this pilot program, please see CIC’s program delivery update.

Really? Would you not want to become a permanent resident within a year instead 2/2.5 years, unable to leave Canada to visit family or go on vacation?

Well now that you put it that way...

I'm happy for all the pending immigrants who are now able to work & provide for their families.
