Has anyone been through something similar?

I made my refugee claim in Canada in January 2024. Almost a year and a half later, my claim was suspended because of a criminal charge. The charge was later completely withdrawn, and there was no conviction. My lawyer submitted the court documents confirming that the case was resolved, and I also renewed my work permit.

It’s now been almost a year since the suspension, and I’m still waiting for my refugee claim to move forward. I’ve had very little communication, and the waiting has been frustrating.

I’m sharing this to see if anyone else has experienced a refugee claim being suspended because of criminal charges that were later withdrawn. How long did it take for your case to become active again? Did you have to do anything besides waiting, or did IRCC eventually resume processing on its own?

I’m not looking for legal advice—just hoping to hear from people who have been through a similar situation and can share their experience.

Thank you in advance.

If the charge was completely withdrawn and your lawyer has already submitted the court documents, hopefully it's just a matter of the file working its way back through the system. Hopefully someone who's had their claim suspended and then reinstated can share how long it took

Has the criminal matter that caused the suspension been cleared from the file, and has notice been issued to resume processing of the refugee claim? A suspension is different from a refusal. GCMS/CBSA written status could help determine whether the file is actually waiting for an officer's action.

I have been emailing. My lawyer sent him all the necessary documents no response from him. I don’t even know what to do next if you get a new lawyer or call RCC and find out.

I'm trying to understand and learn about the process; unfortunately, my daughter got charged.
I hope IRCC see your situation and start the process.
