Hello, Hope you are all doing fine.
Please read until the end, even if it's a bit long. I tried my best. Sorry :) .

Here's my boyrfiend's case: My boyfriend came to Canada from USA with his family on a refugee claim, that they applied for saying they can't return back to their home country which is Pakistan since they have never really lived there; my boyfriend spent his life from age 2 to 20 in USA, while his parents didn't have a legal status there; but they managed to stay in USA by their children thanks to Obama's law. Now, since Trump deleted that law, they had to leave USA. Fast forward to coming to Canada, exactly to the Quebec province, their refugee claim got refused.
After delivering their IDs from their homeland, it's only a matter of time until they deport the whole family. He seperated his case from his family's due to some personal issues. He has an open full time work permit and have been working here for nearly 8 months now. He has never been arrested or done anything illegal.

Here's my case: I am an international student who came to Canada to get a professional degree in hopes that I'll be able to work here, build a life, get my CSQ and eventually a PR to live here.

What I want to know please : If I get married to my boyfriend while he is still in Canada, would that make him stay and not face deportation to his homeland. if not, what is the best way to get him to stay or at least comeback in a short amount of time (2 to 3 months) ? We really don't want to be seperated.

Thank you so much for reading.

When does his work permit expire? He can stay in Canada for as long as the permit is active. Unfortunately marrying you does not give him any special status in Canada and will not keep him from being deported. How long have you been together? They will see it as a marriage of convenience if you do not have an extensive background together and if it is seen that your marriage happened to keep him in Canada.

His work permit expires in June 2020. We have been together for a year and living together for 6 months now. We have solid proof that it's going to be a marriage out of love and long term relationship and not just a marriage of convenience. Is it enough of a proof or do we need more ?

I can't tell you if the proof you have is enough for CIC, check the checklist for spousal sponsorship and make sure you have everything they ask for, it's a lot more than just timelines and living together. When you get married, make sure the marriage and ceremony holds to cultural norms. Your application will be scrutinized more because of his past issues with immigration, so make sure to have solid proofs.

You could get married and he could then apply for a spousal open work permit, however, those are not guaranteed for applicants and his status as a refused refugee makes him appear desperate to remain in Canada and the spousal open work permit would be refused.

If you are not a PR or Canadian citizen, your only ability to "sponsor" him comes when you are a PR or citizen.

I understand. But I also heard that when I apply for my CSQ after finishing my degree, I can apply for his with mine ( knowing that we will be already married) and he can still comeback and work here.
