Hello Guys,

I am a Yemeni girl that has been residing in Malaysia for over 15 years. I obtained my bachelors in Kuala Lumpur, and then got admitted into a Canadian university to further my education and study Masters. I got the letter of acceptance and a scholarship from the Canadian university. I submitted my application on the 20th of June, and got my rejection on the 30th of July.

I have submitted all the required documents mentioned in the checklist. I didn’t submit my medical report though, cuz I was told that the embassy must call and request for it.

The reasons for my rejections were;

1) Travel History (I haven’t travelled much, the last time was in 2010)

2) Purpose of Visit (I have provided statement of purpose, letter of acceptance and scholarship. Is there other stuff I missed?)

3) Personal and Financial assets (I'm a fresh graduate and I own no assets. My dad is my sponsor, what should he provide?)

4) Immigration Status (I am on social pass visa, which is dependent on my dad's resident visa in Malaysia. I renew my visa yearly. Is an employment letter enough to proof that I'm returning)

I would appreciate any help, guys xx

You mean in the new statement of purpose, I should mention these issues?
I got rejected for same reasons first

I adressed the issue of immigration status with cover letters

But considering travel history, i personally am going for one week's tour to address that issue.

For finance, attach more financial documents, wherein in my case, i paid 75% upfront for my course 50000Cad

And soon I'll be reapplying

It's their country and we have to address their concerns

Good luck

Unfortunately your big issue is your citizenship. Given you are from Yemen there would be a high chance of you filing for asylum on arrival. Given your advanced degree and scholarship you may be able to overcome the concerns. Would include your acceptance and scholarship information. You need to provide financial information for your father. Not sure if you are provided with a full scholarship but there are aalways extra costs. You should include a SOP describing why you want to study in Canada and why you will return. The issue is you are supposed to be returning to your home country and showing ties to your home country. How long are you able to have a social pass. Is there an age limit for your father to sponsor you? The other concern will be the fact that it is renewed yearly. You will need to convince CIC that you father will be able to stay in Malaysia later longterm and that’s our be able to legally return to Malaysia and that you will return to Malaysia.

Thank you so much for your in-depth reply, I am really grateful

I am definitely coming back to Malaysia, and Should I contact the university for more information regarding the scholarship and acceptance letter?

I did provide my dad’s financial funds (over $80K). However, I did not provide any personal assets documents.

In my SOP, I did mention why I would like to study in Canada and that I would apply my new gained knowledge in Malaysia as I would like to come back and work in green economy. I will definitely revise my statement of purpose.
Is showing ties to my country of residence good enough? I have been living here for 18 years.

As for my social pass, there is no age limit. I can reapply as long as I am staying here or my family. My dad resident pass is renewable every 5 years. So, even after completing my studies, my dad/family will still be in Malaysia.

Should I provide an in-depth explanation of my immigration status in my statement of purpose?

Thank you so much

Yes it is important to go through your immigration statement and explain that you will be able to stay indefinitely in Malaysia. I woulld explain that you don’t have strong ties to Yemen but you have lived in Malaysia for 18 years and consider it your home. I would include any financial information if you have any savings in addition to family support. As long as you can include the details of your scholarship and how much money you will receive that should be fine.

Thank you so much! You've been a great help.

I will revise my statement of purpose and make sure to include all the necessary explanation.

Since the next intake is on September 2020, when is the ideal time to reapply?

You can apply anytime you want if you have all the required documents..so that if there's a refusal you can easily work it out

I was wondering, is it possible to show ties for both my country and the country of residence. My dad owns a house back in Yemen. Would that strengthen or hinder my application?

I am sure you got a very good hints from friends over here. Just to add , make sure in your SOP mention that why you choose your program in Canada. A very good and strong reason might be that course is not available in Malaysia and therefore you have to going abroad. Or if program exist, compare grade of your university vs Malaysian ones.
It will proof your propose of visit.
