Hey there,

I'm looking to apply for a Canadian PR by the end of this year; looking to move to the beautiful, great country of Canada from India. I do know people in Canada but I'm flying solo right now in terms of building my PR application through the Express Entry system.

So I'm looking for buddies who can help and motivate each other on this novel, and slightly intimidating path.

For a bit of background, I'm a 29-year old with six years experience in the IT field (I was a tester, I'm currently a technical writer); I find English tests like IELTS simple (but I really shouldn't be overconfident about this) and I have a Masters in Computer Science from a reputed US university after which I unfortunately had to come back to India due to VISA problems.

Please do reply here if you think we can work together in a positive way.

Thank you,

I would strongly recommend that you dedicate time to studying before taking the IELTS exam. Take several practice exams and study the exam structure and how points are awarded. We often see people here who are very confident about their English language and test abilities but end up with low scores since they don't prepare.

I second this. There are plenty of native speakers who don't get all nines because they didn't prepare. The test is pretty simple if you know what they are looking for.

IELTS bit is the easy part. even without practice you can get 8777.

Did you research "technical writer" jobs... ??

To be honest, not much. I can tell that it is going to be difficult to get a proper technical writing job in Canada. I'm going to try asking within my company(they have a branch in Canada), and if that doesn't pan out then I'm not sure what I can do.

I could land in Canada, and work some odd jobs while distributing my resume there. If I could get my foot in the door by taking up some writing-related job, then I know I can go from there.

Yes, that's on the agenda. The practice tests so far have been relatively ok, but a few have really kicked my ass. So gotta keep practising!
