Hi Div,

I think you can use both the reports as both WES and ICES are recognised organisations for Canadian equivalency standards. May I know how much time ICES took for evaluating your PG report? And, which university's PG diploma you did? TIA

Hi all,

I need some help with a situation, I had my bachelor's and post graduate diploma evaluated by WES. Unfortunately WES did not recognise the diploma. Hence I got only my diploma evaluated by ICES and they recognised it as Post Undergraduate Diploma.

Would it be a problem if I use both the reports while claiming points? Wes report shows it as unrecognised program and ICES report shows it as recognised.

Please help!!!

Good day,

I'm 31 years old and I have 9 years work experience. I have 4 years Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering and assessed by WES. My current highest CRS score is 318 (IELTS-8777).

I would like to study in Canada either Power Engineering Certificate course (1 year - credits) of Canada's polytechnic college certification level or Graduate certificate Project Management.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica Neue, Helvetica, sans-serif]In the above circumstance, am I eligible to select 'Two or more certificates, diplomas, or degrees' OPTION along with 4b) Have you earned a Canadian degree, diploma or certificate?

If answer is YES, that will boost my CRS score above 461 and help to apply PR in 2020.

I really appreciated for your kind valuable suggestion.

Regards
Rajesh

Hi,
I have completed Mtech, BTech and Diploma and I wish to get credentials evaluated only for BTech and MTech from WES.
As I have done diploma and got direct admission to BTech second year, so I was wondering will WES accept documents only pertaining to second, third and fourth year of engineering? Or will they send a query asking for diploma transcripts or may be first year marksheets in other case? Please guide.

I feel it's better to have all 3 transcripts and valuation done to be on safe side

I am unsure about this because, WES mentions that MTech candidate does not even need BTech credentials to be evaluated. I am getting BTech done as an addition. So I was really wanting to skip diploma as the MSBTE transcript process is going to take me long time. :-|

Ok then it makes sense for just going with Masters ...for MTech...and yes I believe there is a note as well in WES supporting your statement.thanks for them clarification

Hello,

I am new here. Could someone be kind enough to clarify this for me please.

I have a 3 years bachelor degree in Business Administration in UK, already validated by WES. If my score won’t fit in 2019’s rounds of ITA, I need to find ways to considerably increase my CRS score and apply again in 2020 or 2021.

My question is: Can I increase my chance with EE by getting any 1 year certificate in Canada (not necessarily related to my degree), so that I can get more points by having “Two or more degrees, diploma...”?

My spouse will then have an open work permit, and she will try to get a job. If we are lucky enough, she might gain some work experience in Canada while waiting for me to graduate in 1 year. And I can also try to find a job with my PGWP later on, for some extra Canada work experience. The reason why I want to take a 1 year certificate in a totally different major is because I think if I choose a more vocational/technical job related certificate in Canada, it might be easier for me to get a job in Canada than getting a Business Administration postgrad diploma certificate in Canada.

I am hoping the answer to my question above is YES.

I really appreciate if someone can enlighten me on this matter. Thank you.

Hello gents,

I have a related issue, Does anyone knows if a One-year online Certificate or Diploma from a Canadian University would be acceptable for WES or no ?
I have already a bachelor degree but I must boost my points to get invited.

Appreciate your inputs.

Hi, please i really need your input here. I have bsc in business administration from one of the universities in Nigeria which can serve as equivalent for 3 years or more for ECA. I also did a professional course in personnel management in one of the institutes in Nigeria for a year and half, will that serve as two degrees? Please i await response on this. Thank you.

Two or more certificates, diplomas, or degrees

So lately there has been a lot of confusion about the option to choose "Two or more degrees, diploma" in the CRS Calculator. Many people are worried if their qualification comes under this. So lets get it sorted out for once and all.

First of all, when you create an Express Entry profile, there is no such option of selecting "two or more degrees, diplomas" in the Education section. In the EE profile, you just need to enter each of your qualifications, as per ECA. Once you enter all the details, the system calculates the points for Education and Skill Transfer-ability factor, on its own, using this data. So just enter the details as per the ECA and the points will be calculated.

But some people want to know, before creating the EE profile, whether they can claim points for two or more degrees, diplomas.

In that case, first get an ECA for your educational qualifications. Without an ECA, its hard to predict whether you will be eligible to claim points for two or more degrees. Once you have the ECA, please refer to the following link and if your ECA equivalency is mentioned there, you are eligible:

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/become-candidate/eligibility/education-assessed/read-report.html

Many people get confused with the wordings in the above link, where it mentions:

Two or more certificates, diplomas, or degrees.
Important notice: One must be for a program of three or more years.

ECA assessment results:

A three-year or more certificate, diploma, or degree

PLUS any of the results in the sections below (not including secondary/high school), or:
  • Post-Bachelor's Certificate
  • Post-undergraduate certificate
  • Post-Bachelor's Diploma
  • Post-undergraduate diploma
  • Graduate Certificate
  • Graduate Certificate with a focus in [area of concentration]
  • Postgraduate certificate
  • Postgraduate Diploma
  • Graduate Diploma with a focus in [area of concentration]
  • Graduate diploma
  • two-year Postgraduate Diploma, specializing in [name of discipline]
  • two-year Bachelor’s after degree with a focus in [area of concentration]
  • one-year Postgraduate Certificate in [name of discipline]
  • Dual Bachelor’s degree (four years)
The above highlighted part (in red) specifically mentions that if your ECA Equivalency in mentioned in the below sections too, you are eligible to claim points for two or more degrees.

The sections are:

Bachelor’s degree or other programs (three or more years) at a university, college, trade or technical school, or other institute

Two-year degree, diploma or certificate from a program at a university, college, trade or technical school, or other institute

One-year degree, diploma or certificate from a program at a university, college, trade or technical school, or other institute

Please note that you should have at least one of the credential in your ECA must be for 3 or more years, in order to claim the points under this category.

Also, there has been a misconception that the second diploma/degree should be after you earned the bachelor's degree. This is not true, your diploma could have been completed before the bachelor's degree and you will still be eligible.

I hope post will clear all the confusion. If there is any error in my post, please let me know and suggestions are also welcome.
Thanks Maverick and others for your clarifications, but I have a question regarding the (Graduate Certificate).
Is there any definition or constraints for it (except one year length) ? because I found a lot of universities offering a collection of courses under one certificate but I do not know if it would be acceptable by WES or no. So is there any conditions I need to check before enrolling in on of these programs ?

Thanks in advance,

Well, I have been answering same for many applicants. Want to add the following clarifications from two other authentic IRCC sources-

Paragraph 78 (1)(e) of Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (SOR/2002-227).

Education (25 points)
  • 78 (1) Points shall be awarded, to a maximum of 25, for a skilled worker’s Canadian educational credential or equivalency assessment submitted in support of an application, as follows:
  • (a) 5 points for a secondary school credential;
  • (b) 15 points for a one-year post-secondary program credential;
  • (c) 19 points for a two-year post-secondary program credential;
  • (d) 21 points for a post-secondary program credential of three years or longer;
  • (e) 22 points for two or more post-secondary program credentials, one of which must be a credential issued on completion of a post-secondary program of three years or longer;
  • (f) 23 points for a university-level credential at the master’s level or at the level of an entry-to-practice professional degree for an occupation listed in the National Occupational Classification matrix at Skill Level A for which licensing by a provincial regulatory body is required; and
  • (g) 25 points for a university-level credential at the doctoral level.
  • Marginal note:More than one educational credential
    (2) For the purposes of subsection (1), points
    • (a) except as set out in paragraph (1)(e), shall not be awarded cumulatively on the basis of more than one educational credential; and
    • (b) shall be awarded on the basis of the Canadian educational credentials or equivalency assessments submitted in support of an application for a permanent resident visa that result in the highest number of points.
http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2002-227/page-18.html#docCont

Those who are saying second degree must be after bachelors should read above. 78(1)(e) clearly says two or more post-secondary program credentials. Basically you can claim points for all post secondary credentials which are assessed as Canadian equivalent by one of the designated organizations such as WES, IQAS etc. To claim points for two or more degree One of the credentials must be assessed as 3 years or long degree , diploma or certificate and other one can be assessed as minimum one year long program BEFORE or AFTER the 3 year long Degree.

Marginal note mentioned above should help those who obtained degree as lateral entry at year 2nd or 3rd. Those people may have attended only two years or even only final year at bachelors level but was awarded full bachelors degree certificate because of exempted credits for the exempted year. They will also be awarded points for two or more degree if their ECA outcome for the degree is minimum bachelors degree (3 years) along with a minimum one year long diploma because the marginal note states that (b) shall be awarded on the basis of the Canadian educational credentials or equivalency assessments submitted in support of an application for a permanent resident visa that result in the highest number of points.

If you are still confused then more clarifications are here-

Two or more post-secondary credentials (three-year or longer post-secondary credential required)
Points:
22

Designated organizations assessment outcomes
A three-year or longer post-secondary credential in combination with any of the post secondary educational credentials listed below. This excludes secondary school credentials.

Post-secondary educational credentials could also include post-baccalaureate or post-graduate credentials as follows:
  • Post-bachelor’s certificate
  • Post-undergraduate certificateFootnotei
  • Post-bachelor’s diploma
  • Post-undergraduate diplomaFootnotei
  • Graduate certificate
  • Graduate certificate with a focus in [area of concentration]Footnotei
  • Postgraduate certificate
  • Postgraduate diploma
  • Graduate diploma with a focus in [area of concentration]Footnotei
  • Graduate diplomaFootnotei
  • Two-year postgraduate diploma, specializing in [name of discipline]
  • Two-year bachelor’s degree after a degree with a focus in [area of concentration]Footnotei
  • One-year postgraduate certificate in [name of discipline]
  • One-year of graduate study with a focus in [area of concentration]Footnotei
  • Study toward a master’s degree
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/permanent-residence/economic-classes/federal-skilled-workers/selection-criteria-education-equivalency-assessment-outcomes-education-points.html

All confusions should be cleared by the sentence marked in Red Color above. It says Post-secondary educational credentials could also include post-baccalaureate or post-graduate credentials. They said "Could Also Include" which means other sections such as "One year program", "Two year programs" also counts.

Applicants should not be worried about misrepresentation for this at all. Applicants are advised to enter their credential in the education history section of their EE profile according to the ECA report and the system will calculate the points by itself. In EE Profile we have the following options for Level of education for each of the credentials-
  • Secondary certificate
  • One year program
  • Two year program
  • Bachelors Or 3 or more years program
  • Masters
  • PhD
Select appropriate level of education based on ECA report you will receive your appropriate points.

Hope this clarifies the confusion once for all!
