Hi,

As per CIC, for someone who arrives in Canada on a Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa - TRV), seems to be able to extend his stay beyond 6 months by applying for an extension, without leaving Canada.

www(dot)cic(dot)gc(dot)ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp#extend

I am trying to find if it's possible for someone from a visa exempt country, i.e. travelling on a eTA, to be also able to extend his stay by applying for an extension, without leaving Canada.

It's much appreciated if someone on this forum can provide guidance on this topic.

Thanks,

Yes, it is possible: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp

If you want to extend your stay in Canada, you must apply to do so. Check your temporary resident status to make sure you apply before the expiry date. This will be on your study or work permit, the stamp in your passport or, if you do not have a stamp in your passport, 6 months from the day you entered Canada.
By the way, this is unrelated to the eTA. The eTA is not needed for those crossing a land border, and is not needed by American citizens. But these people too must apply to extend their stays beyond six months.

Good morning

I would be interested in the outcome of this

I am applying for permanent residency under the Spousal Sponsorship programme Outland from the UK

I will be entering Canada as a Visitor this coming Saturday on a ETA, i have a return flight booked for June, but i am hoping i can extend my stay by applying for a visa extension.

What are the chances do you think? how did this work out for you?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks

The main criterion is having enough money in the bank or your spouse having enough income that there's no suspicion that you'll need to work while in the country. It helps a lot to be from a developed country.

An alternative is to ask the border official for more than six months when you first enter the country.

Include proof of the PR app and proof of finances. There should be no issues.

A little late to the party but. Here's my story and question.

The timeline of my application is in my signature. I visited my husband in Canada between April 6th and May 26th 2019. That's 51 days. I have an eTA. We were wondering whether I can fly in for 3-4 months sometime soon (the remaining time on my eTA for this 12-month period) and apply to extend my stay while I am there, maybe after 2 months or so to allow for enough time for them to make a decision, so that if they refuse my extension, I can still use my return ticket to fly back to Russia. Rather than losing that ticket and then paying more money for more tickets.

What are the chances of me being refused/approved? I'd be happy for any input whatsoever, honestly.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused by your post. How do you have an eTA?

I have a Russian and a Cypriot (EU) citizenship :)
Ah. :) Bottom line, you should be able to enter Canada for as long as your eTA is valid (the expiration date), and you will likely be assessed up to a 6-month visit on each entry.
If you plan to apply for an extension to stay longer than 6 months, you have a good chance of getting approved because of your ongoing sponsorship application.

There is no "12 month period" for an eTA. As said above, you will likely get the standard 6 months.

What are you talking about?my sister in law came from Mexico without visa.she was planning to stay and work illegally and instead of returning after a month she changed her return ticket and already found a job illegal2 and working in Vancouver.(even though befoee she came i reported hee 5-6 times to border watch)so it means they check whatever they want and they allow whoever they want.so even if you come from the riche
