Hello, I am a Canadian citizen and a full-time student, currently hospitalized due to ongoing health issues. I applied for and received refugee status in Canada 11 years ago. In my original Basis of Claim (BOC), I mentioned that I feared persecution from my country's laws as well as from my family/parents. Now, because I am sick in the hospital, my parents want to apply for a visitor visa to come and support me. My concern is whether IRCC might cross-reference their visa application with my old refugee file and question why my parents are now visiting me—specifically if it looks contradictory to what I stated in my BOC regarding my fear of them, or if sponsoring/supporting their visit could cause any legal complications or review of my status. They are financially independent and have a strong travel history to Europe on Schengen visas. I would like to schedule a short consultation with you to discuss whether this poses any risk and how best to handle it.

Thank you !

IRCC could potentially consider the relevant information when assessing their applications. The key is to be truthful about your current relationship and circumstances, as family relationships can change over time. I would recommend consulting an experienced immigration lawyer before submitting their applications, especially to understand whether any part of your original claim could raise questions.

Hi , yes circumstances always change , nothing is stable . For instance political activists the danger of before is likely not to be a danger in the present . i know many homosexuals who were rejected by their families and then they are getting along again . or people who were refugees and then returned to their countries of origin .
As another example no matter the basis of your claim , a couple of naturlized refugees would return to their countries of origin because the fear is no longer imminent
Also there are others whose sexuality has changed overtime . beaten women who returned to their husbands and are getting along again etc etc
Here i just agree with you that circumstances change .

so why it would be a matter in my case in regards with my family rather than my country of origin where i could return freely after citizenship.
the principle is the same , with my family once they find out about my sexuality they quit talking to me for awhile but things could change which is quite normal
. just wondering . thank you

I agree that circumstances and family relationships can change over time. That doesn’t automatically contradict your original claim. I’d just recommend checking with an immigration lawyer to make sure there are no unexpected complications
