Public pushback won't change anything unless the IRPA or Refugee Protection Division Rules change as a result of them. The public can speak up, start petitions, and do more, those can eventually result in new laws being passed or regulations being changed, as we saw with Bill C-12; but as long as the regulations stay the same, processes like the Short Hearing Process or the File-Review Process will continue to exist. And in my opinion that won't change for a while due to the massive backlog of refugee claims, because the IRB has to process them somehow. Putting everyone through the full hearing process won't help that.

Agree that some form of expedited review will likely remain but given our approval rates are much higher than the rest of the world and IRB knows there are issues with fraud there will be public pressure to prioritize better vetting versus maintaining current processing speed.

Entered Canada May 21, 2025 and claimed at the airport
Submitted my BOC with help of a lawyer in July 5, 2025
Work permit arrived July 21, 2025

nothing happened since July, I call my lawyer every now and then and he replies to me that my FESS hasn't been completed, I called the IRB this week and they said there is an update on my case on the IRB portal but I'd have to talk to my lawyer to access that information. I have been calling my lawyer's office but could not reach them unfortunately.

I have seen many people telling me that I am eligible for the less complex process because I come from Sudan, but It has been almost a year since I landed in Canada and nothing happened :(

Could anyone please advise me on what to do? I have to visit a dear friend of mine that is sick and getting treated abroad.
if ur security background check hasnt completed in july 2026, u should chase with ur lawyer. Many of us including me has completed security background checks on Jan/Feb 2026. but i entered canada at Jan/Feb 2025. i m curious how did u call IRB

Hopefully this can give someone hope

My friend applied on March 5, 2024 and was later assigned a less complex hearing. On Wednesday, April 15, they received a Notice to Appear from the IRB for a virtual short hearing, scheduled for May 28 2026.
