I have been waiting since late January 2023. I filed in Montreal. I haven’t even received a hearing date or any information at all since receiving my work permit.

Also does anyone know why on the IRCC website when checking processing times for refugee applications (Protected Persons and Convention Refugees in Canada) it shows very different timelines for Quebec and Outside of Quebec.

I thought refugee cases were handled by the federal government instead of the provincial government.

For example I applied in Montreal in 2023 January. The website says I have 21 months left, but when I choose outside of Quebec it says I only have 2 months left.

The processing times are for PR applications from protected persons, not for refugee claims.

I finally heard something from IRB after years of no correspondence, but I’m not sure if it’s good news or bad news.

I made my refugee claim in late January 2023 and completed all my interviews that same year. Since then, I hadn’t received any updates until this week, March 10th, 2026, when I was sent the ICAC Less Complex File Review letter.

From what I understand, this means my case is moving forward and that it might be decided without a hearing. However, based on what I’ve read on this forum, some people have waited up to a year after receiving this letter before getting a decision. In some cases, after that wait they were still scheduled for a hearing months later.

Has anyone here received this letter recently? If so, how long did it take before you received further correspondence or a decision?

Hi everyone, I just wanted to share my asylum case timeline and see if anyone can give me an idea of when I might get a decision:

  • Applied for asylum: July 14, 2024
  • Passport surrendered: August 6, 2024
  • Full evidence package submitted: May 30, 2025
  • File Review notice from IRB (less complex): June 4, 2025 (with document deadline June 26, 2025)
  • CBSA clarification requested: June 18, 2025 (about military service)

Based on this, does anyone have an idea how long it might take for a decision now? I am so frustrated. any suggestions? Do you think ATIP or MP can help? My lawyer is not too much responsive, but last time I was able to speak with her she said my case is with RPD.
