Hi everyone,
I’m currently a refugee claimant in Canada and was wondering if it's possible to buy a car through financing with zero or minimum down payment. Has anyone here gone through this process while on a refugee claim? If so, I’d really appreciate any insights or references—like dealerships/sales agents or programs—that might support claimants in this situation.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes. There are alternative and subprime lenders. Some dealerships will work with different financiers to achieve this for you. However, please be mindful of the terms and interest rates presented to you, subprime lenders are sketchy and you can be stuck paying more interest for the loan than the principle amount of the vehicle.

I recommend that you get a credit card and use it for everything, paying it off right away. Take out a phone bill that is post paid. Go to somewhere like an electronics or furniture store and finance a TV for $1000 and take a year to pay it off. This will all build your credit rating very positively.
