When did you submit your application ?

Hi,

DR stands for Dependents (Refugee).
When you apply for PR as a protected person, IRCC often:
• Keeps your PR application under one main application number, and
• Creates a separate internal file number (DR number) for your accompanying spouse (and children, if any).
The DR number is used by IRCC to:
• Track your spouse as a dependent linked to your PR application
• Process medical exams, background checks, biometrics, and eligibility separately
• Issue a separate PR confirmation (COPR) for your spouse later
It does not mean your spouse has a different PR category or a problem with the application.
It is normal and positive, especially after receiving an eligibility letter.
• Your spouse is still included in your PR application
• The DR number is administrative only
• Final decisions are still linked to the principal applicant (you)

There are two different portals, and this causes confusion.
A) PR Application Portal (GCKey / IRCC Secure Account)
• Usually only the principal applicant has access
• Dependents do not get their own login at this stage
• The DR number cannot be used to create a separate GCKey account

B) PR Confirmation Portal (later stage)
IRCC will email separately when they are ready to confirm PR.
At that time:
• You may receive one email for you
• And a separate email for your spouse, even if using the same email address
• Each person may get their own portal credentials to:
o Confirm presence in Canada
o Upload photo
o Provide address for PR card

This happens after background checks are completed, not now.

Nothing extra is required right now.
Just make sure that:
• Your spouse completes biometrics (if requested)
• Your spouse completes medical exam (if requested)
• You regularly check:
o Your IRCC account
o Email (including spam/junk)

The DR number is mainly for IRCC’s internal processing.
