Hello,

I would like to know my options for filling a PR in canada federal skilled worker program (fswp). I live in the USA on a H1B (Work visa) and I have an Indian Passport.

Also can someone ping me or reach me out if they have done "FSWP" and help me with getting any Canadian Immigration Firm who can help in this?

I worked in the field of laser, optics and quantum computing. My work is to design mechanical requirements for the optical requirements and testing for laser systems.

Hence my profile is optical-mechanical engineer

You cannot apply for PR until you submit an Express Entry profile and get invited. If not fluent in French then low chance. Go on the IRCC site and research Express Entry with your ECA, language scores and NOC. Focus has been on CEC (those working in Canada) or those with specific NOCs like healthcare and education or French draws. IT NOCs have not been in demand for a long time but it may return. For FSWP draws, there have not been specific draws in years unless your score is way over 550. Again if not fluent then no chance.

Submitting an Express Entry profile is free with ECA and language score so no need for immigration firm. A firm cannot give you PR. Your score must be high enough.

Hey! Quick rundown on FSWP:
You apply through Express Entry (points-based system). Here's what you need:

NOC code - You're likely NOC 21301 (Mechanical engineers). Make sure the duties match your actual job, not just the title.
Education assessment (ECA) - Get your degrees assessed. WES is most common.
Language test - IELTS or CELPIP. Need minimum CLB 7 in all four areas for FSWP.
Calculate CRS score - Use IRCC's calculator. Recent draws have been 400-540 depending on category.
Submit EE profile - Once you have ECA + language scores, enter the pool and wait for an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

Good news: Your H1B experience counts as foreign work experience (points for that). Your field (quantum/optics) could qualify for STEM category draws, which have lower cutoffs (450-490 range). Do you need a consultant? Express Entry is pretty straightforward if you're organized. Calculate your CRS score first—if you're 450+, you probably don't need help. If you do want professional support, look for a licensed RCIC.

Good luck!

What are you talking about? 450...are you crazy? Mechanical engineering for quantum computing...why?

Whether you have a chance at securing PR will depend on age, education, language score, level of education, etc. Will also depend on whether you qualify for any of the new programs that target H1B holders or those with specialized advanced degrees. Do you have a job offer in Canada?
