I applied for PR under family class within Canada and I am currently in Canada as a visitor.
My status expires in January and I haven't received an AOR yet. Do you apply for a visitor extension or is there any other way?
I know that I can apply for an open work permit as soon as I received the AOR, but how can I make sure that I am not overstay my visa?
if you want to stay on the safe side, apply to extend your stay as a visitor before you status expires.

We have been waiting patiently since almost 5 years for my husband's spousal visa application to be processed but to no avail. have done several gcms notes and called ircc customer services but every time we just get the same answer "please be patient, your file is under process and you will be informed if any information is further needed". in oct it will be exactly 5 years. We got a refusal once in feb 2023 but we won our appeal and its been more than 2 to that as well. Note: according to the GCMS notes there is nothing wrong or missing in the file and even the appeal allowed letter it clearly states that if the case should have gone to trial, we would still have won the case as they IRCC counsel found our case to be genuine and nothing misleading in it.

I am listing our timeline below and wondering if anyone could help us by advising what shall we do:

APP Received: October 26, 2020
AOR: April 19, 2021
SA: April 19, 2021
Medical Request for principal applicant: April 27, 2021
Medical completed for Principal Applicant: June 23, 2021
Background Check completed: Jan 5,2022
Eligibility Activity Status completed: Jan 5, 2022
Biometric Requested: Jan 20, 2022
Biometric Submitted: Jan 21, 2022
Eligibility Activity Status in Progress Again: Feb 1, 2022
Medical Reports Received by IRCC for Non-Accompanying Dependents: Feb 22, 2022
Refusal Letter: February 3, 2023
Appeal Allowed: August 8, 2023
File Re-open: March 2024
Eligibility Completed:
March 20, 2024
Pre Arrival: March 21, 2024
Background Verification status changed to in progress: April 4, 2024
Re-Medical Request for principal applicant: April 09, 2024
Re-Medical completed for Principal Applicant: April 19th, 2024
I see your background check started in April, usually that can take a long time to complete. My husband's background check had started at the beginning of December 2024 and it only completed on September 29th, 2025. I had sponsored my husband in 2014 and was refused, I appealed and lost. I waited until last year and re-sponsored him and now he is approved for pr.

Kind of a random question but hope someone can help.

For Ontario residents to apply for OHIP, can she do it as soon as she is physically there, and will she get immediate coverage?

On the website it says the wait requirement has been waived, but that's under the "Emergency" subheading:

https://www.ontario.ca/page/apply-ohip-and-get-health-card
Once a PR, one can apply immediately and get coverage.

(Yes they've been a bit odd about how they announce this but waiver still in effect AFAIK)

Thanks, we submitted an updated police certificate on Friday as they requested, and today our PR Tracker is showing all Completed - does that mean PPR should be coming next?

Outland - PA: Brazil
Submitted: January 9th, 2025

Probably soon but I've no idea about specifics (and I don't follow what's covered on the PR tracker side).

It varies. Is your application linked to the tracker? You can get a general idea from there once it starts showing as “In Progress.”

Yes it’s linked….. And is showing in progress …. Just wondering why they haven’t request for medicals yet …. And please is there any WhatsApp link where you can get updates for PR and visit applications?

I got my PR in 2024, so I am a bit out of touch with the updates now, sorry. I remember there used to be a Google Sheet where applicants from each month added their timelines, like when they received their biometric letters, medical requests, final decisions, and so on, but I completely lost the link now. Sorry about that.

Have you done a medical exam before for anything other than your PR application? In my case, I had done mine earlier for a visitor record, and IRCC used the same medical results, so I did not have to redo it for my PR. Wonder if that is your case or you might have to wait a little longer. Seems like everything is going slow now.

any update guys from December 2023 applicants? background verification still in progress since January. ME expired in July and no email received Is this normal?

Hi all, I submitted a spousal sponsorship application for my wife. She is in Canada. I received an email today for additional information required in her IMM5669.

However I do no know how to go about resubmitting this form or linking her application to GCkey. We have her application number, UCI in the letter that was received today. If someone can guide me on how to link the application or create an account to see the status or resubmit the form that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,

If the application is straightforward and things do move at a timely speed without any hiccups, then what have the current outland spousal sponsorship timelines been like? Based on a few recent threads, seems like it takes around 4-5 months start to end... is that actually true? (I know every case is unique and the official processing time as per IRCC is currently close to 15 months but still...)

Is the general trend as low and quick as 4 months?! Whoa.

Thanks!

I have recently seen some Outland applications from Thailand that were processed quite quickly. Most took around 4 to 5 months, and one was finalized in just 3.5 months.
