I had already declared all the jewelry with photos when I landed first in 2015 as a PR. 2019 I emigrated Canada. 2021 I got my citizenship.
case1
Post emigration I bought few gold jewelry which is more than 800$.
I will be making a 2nd landing Sept 2025. Do I need to pay duty even if i am wearing my day to day jewelry? If so how much. Or will I be exempted as this is my 2nd landing. Kindly guide me.

Case2
Some jewelry which was already declared in 2016 was exchanged for a new design chain. Will there be any impact?

Kindly clarify

As the amount of your import is > $800, yes, you'll have to pay duty on it. I was recently reading CBSA's import guidelines and it looked like even if we aren't importing >$800 in item value, we still have to declare. The 2nd landing doesn't really matter.

Hi thanks.
We r three in a family. I heard we can bring 10kCAD cash or cash plus gold or other financial instruments that adds up to 10k. Did I get it right?
Second, can each of us get 10k CAD or the limit for each family is 10k?
Third,
Couple of new jewelry i made by exchanging old ones which was already declared. Besides I would be wearing them ( not carrying). Do I still need to declare these modifications. Even if I do, are there any tax implications? If so what
How is the tax percentage calculated? Kindly explain.

This is NOT true.

The only thing about 10k CND is that if you are carrying 10k or more in cash/currency of any type, you need to declare it.
Canada do not tax on money. But it needs to be declared.

Not sure about jewelry. For PR/citizen travelling and coming back there is a duty free limit.
But you may be resettling after moving away. I am not sure how that process goes.

Tks. But how can I find out about this ? I messaged cbsa directly. No response as yet. Is there any whatsapp# or any other mail id you can suggest?

I don't think any govt agency of Canada uses Whatsapp to communicate. About the gold jewellery, declare it to customs upon coming here and see what they say. Follow the website, declare what you are bring-in. CBSA's website says that we have to declare regardless of the limit. I think the tax percentage on jewellery import is upto 8.5% or something - you can look these things up on Google.

This is a very odd thing to do. When you can simply transfer via wire, what sense does it make to carry $30k-40k in cash (total)? Carry what you need, wire the rest.

We only have a duty free import ability when we land here as a PR - we get to have a goods-to-follow list during that. Anything after that is expected to have been bought and bound to customs. In short, after that, everything is import, and depending on total import value (>$800), usage (personal vs commercial), type of import (gold, electronics, car, etc) - you'll pay import duties.
