Hello everyone,

I’m planning to sponsor both of my parents for a Super Visa, and I understand that I need to meet the minimum income requirement, which is around $45,000 for two people.

My question is:

1) Does this income need to be earned within a calendar year (January 1 to December 31)?

Or can it be counted from any 12-month period (e.g., August 2025 to July 2026)?

I want to make sure I’m meeting the financial eligibility properly before applying. If anyone has experience with this or has been approved with income earned outside of a calendar year, I’d really appreciate your insight!

Thank you in advance!

You need to be able to provide your latest NOA to show you meet lico

Also would be for 3 people. Unless you and your parents have savings LICO likely won’t cover your costs while they visit Canada.

Oh! I misunderstood it then. If they showed their bank statement would that help?
No. Bank savings aren't considered. You have to meet LICO through the income you earn in Canada as the sponsor.

Okay so it has to be what I earn starting next year, since I just started working this month
Yes, that right. If they want to travel now, they can apply for a TRV.

Would add that if you only recently moved started working in Canada your parents should probably wait until you established a life in Canada before they attempt to visit you so IRCC is not concerned they are trying to move to Canada. Even a supervisa is not a permanent move to Canada and they will be expected to return home. Parent sponsorship to Canada is far from guaranteed and especially within a certain time frame. Although NOA is the most important you should attach all savings information from you and your parents because it would be very tough to support 2 parents visiting on a supervisa earning only 45k. Supervisa insurance alone will likely be many thousands a year.

Thank you for the insight. You are right. I arrived May 2025. If I show my NOA, my bank statement and parents bank statement…and apply for super visa April 2027, do you think it is an appropriate amount of time?

Yes if you otherwise qualify and so do your parents. It is still a visitor visa so they need a plan for their future in their home country.

Assuming you've been working since in 2025, shouldn't file your taxes in March 2026? If so, you could have received your first NOA in April 2026. So why do you wait to apply for their super visa until April 2027 but not May 2026?

I just started working this July 2025. That’s why I think it’s better to wait until 2027
