HI All, I apologize if this post doesn't belong here. I need some clarity in tax filing requirements for citizenship application.

1. Is the requirement as straightforward as it sounds? i.e. 3 out of 5 years tax filing needed in last 5 years? If i filed taxes in 2021, 20 & 19, am I good?

2. I was non resident of Canada in 2017, 2018 and dont think had any tax obligation to file returns. Can i verify this and get comfort on my CRA account?

Thanks!

Well, yes, it's as straightforward as it sounds.
2017 and 2018, you'll put no for both the "required to file" and "filed" sectiins, and the following years, go with yes/yes, and you'll be good to go as far as citizenship application goes.

No need to file your taxes in 2017 and 2018 if you weren't here.

Just wanted to add, i became PR in 2017 but finally moved in 2019. I filed taxes in 2019, 20 and 21. Does that change anything?
