I landed Toronto a month back and i am not able to exchange my nj license yet. When i went to DriveTest at Richmond Hill the first time, they told me that the nj abstract doesn't have a posting date and they can't accept it. Then i filed a complaint with the customer service and the lady told me that nj keeps on changing its forms and so what in Ontario is called an "abstract" is called by some other name in nj. I went the second time with my old licenses, but still the lady at DriveTest refused to do it.

I called the DMV at Trenton and they told me that i should apply for DO-11 which is Driver License Application History and it takes 3-4 weeks to come. It has been more than 2 weeks now. I am expecting that they send this to my Ontario address which is on the form.

it is really frustrating. My US license also expired and i am not able to go anywhere. Just tied up. can't go back to US since visa expired. Did somebody have the same experience recently? Please help me.

You aren't a citizen of the US?

You don't really have a choice but to wait for the proper form to transfer your license. The only other option you have is to start from scratch and take all the required tests here in Ontario to get a new drivers license.

It is a never ending loop to get the DL changed. Yes DMV in US does ask for 3-4 weeks. If you know anyone to represent you in DMV, you can send them the notarized form and ask them to send the forms back by mail ASAP. Other than that, you will just hv to wait.

Folks, here is my case and appreciate how I can satisfy the 2 years licensed in the last 3 years rule to get a G license:

First NJ License: Issued in March 2015 and expiration in August 2017. I moved out of NJ during the end of 2015 and relocated to Ohio. I renewed my Ohio license thrice since then till July 2019. In July 2019, I moved to my home country, India and lived till April 2021. In April 2021, I moved from India to NJ again and now having an NJ license. I will be moving to Ontario by the end of April 2022.

To summarize,

First NJ license: March 2015 to August 2017
First, second and third OH licenses: December 2015 to July 2019
-- Moved to India and used my already held India license --
Second NJ license: June 2021 till Nov 2025

Is it possible for me to exchange my NJ license for a G license ? (I've already applied for driver license abstracts from OH and placed order for DO-21 online. Also, working on submitting individual requests for both my NJ licenses using DO-11).

Appreciate if someone can shed some light in this case [where a person partially held a license from a country that has exchange agreement with Ontario (United States) and part of the 3 year time was spent in a country which doesn't have license exchange program (India) with Canada]

@KanadianGuy @mitwa1990 @Meimei99 @chikoo1985 @deena.passion Appreciate if you folks can please help in this regard. Thank you!!

hey.. it's easy as long as you have entire driving history from NJ, Ohio and India (If any). They don't prefer breaks.
for Nj it is going to be a little bit of extra work. DL history document does not have issue date only expiration date. So you need to file another form but I don't remember which form is which. Basically you need to fill in DO 11 and DO21 for NJ.

Ensure that the DL history has issue date. If not, then try to get it on separate document for your DL number.

Hope that above helps.

I am in the same situation. I know this is an old thread but can someone help with this? How were you able to get the NJ abstract that was accepted by drivetest in ON?
