Hello Gandaibai,

Just curious, what field are you in? And how do you manage to live in Vancouver with your salary?

Thanks,
A common peasant
Just a run of the mill software dude. I presently do not live in vancouver. But I have lived there for 2 years or so. It was not as tight of budget and my company had decent stock options as well for savings (which I let invested as I got some decent growth during pandemic). Remaining saved cash is split between SB account and some EFTs/REIT in my RRSP.

Our existence is very frugal to be honest. Due to pandemic we have not taken any vacation as my kid is young enough not to be vaccinated for coivd. Biggest spluge (3K/month) is on having a single family home so our jumping jack son does not make neighbor's life miserable. The biggest expense could have been his treatments but we got 20K from BC govt to allocate to different specialists. I am very thankful to Canada and BC folks, honestly.

We do not take alcohol, we cook our own food .. always, we typically travel using bus, most of my clothes are still the ones that I bought from India before coming here, when my parents visited me they brought a boat load of clothes for me, wife and our yet to be born kid. My shoes are walmart bought and I like it that way. Heck the TV in the house comes with the house (its our landlords) and a lot of electronics I got from them (as a part of the house). They also left a gym in basement with treadmill and a elliptical trainer. I had a rowing machine (that I got from India). So it complete the cardio section. For weight training, body weight exercises are more than enough.

I was able to grab 2000 dollars worth of furniture from a Chinese guy who was renovating or re-decorating for just 100$ ... criagslist is god sent. Biggest part of that purchase was hiring a 80 dollar van to transport it. Actually, if you want to live frugally, living next to very rich folks (those in vancouver are VERY VERY VERY rich) can be really rewarding. I got a really nice high quality table from that Chinese guy. The reason he wanted to sell was to make space for new furniture. I do not have any one to show my mismatched furniture, so I am fine so long it is good quality.

Oh lastly, btw, all my moves were company financed. Plane ticket, moving my house affairs.

So my friend asked me a question about qualifying job offer to claim points and I thought I'd ask here. If you claim FSW work experience for one particular NOC and your job offer is in a different NOC, can you claim points for it? Say someone applied FSW under 4012 as a graduate TA and now they got a professor job in Canada as 4011? @legalfalcon ?

And this is why I really hope I get to move to Calgary or Winnipeg instead of Toronto/Vancouver. My wife is in software though so I may be out of luck lol

Almost the story of most of common Maharashtrians. Most of our money is in worth of our assets and we live rather frugally. Though, I am a fake Maharashtrian.

Is it even possible if you are non computer science stream? How is data analyst-not scientist/supply chain analyst and all ?
Its a hard question. It can be done, perhaps, but I have a better counter question. Are you in a stage in your life where you have lost your ability to adapt to something new? If you are, then firstly you are in the wrong game of immigration for immigration at its core is adaptation. Now, this inability happens due to old age, family commitments (your spouse might have some issues of herself/himself) or your children's condition. So remove the constrain of vancouver to being with. Then look for the best option, any where it comes. I already have broken that rule at one place -- I do not ever want to live in USA and I am paying for that. Lastly, not now is not never. So you may end up coming to Vancouver at a later time on a saner position. It need not be your first step, it can be one of the steps.

I went to vancouver because my job demanded it and my employer was ready to foot some part of the bill.

How is public transport in canada is it same as garbage as US or better?
I know about Vancouver and its pretty good. Buses are clean, people are really civilized and buses run mostly on time. Vancouver is REALLY good in terms of public transportation and lately (2019 onwards) they have even enabled payment by credit card tapping in the transports. Only real thing missing is Uber but local taxis work decently. Sky train is god sent. Its dot on time. Then there is sea bus... I used to live in north van for sometime and sea bus ride was a fun way to start and end my day.

I don't mind working anywhere in Canada, I am not married, no kids ,only a gf and she is in the regulated profession but she is extremely smart when comes to cracking exams .why I don't want Ontario and Vancouver housing prices ,I dont think I can even afford an apartment/home there price are quoted in millions and above 600k for a decent home.the thing I like about Vancouver is weather. I adjust pretty well where ever I go and I don't have issues in living in remote areas.
There are way around this house pricing issue.. I had a plan but it is somewhat defeated. Here is one way.. Typically, prices of houses are not scaling with lot sizes that massively. Now at times there are lots which are zoned for 2 family houses but they have a single family home. So if you are savvy and you have a pal (I have a family friend who moved together with me), you can buy a two-family zoned house together and convert it into a duplex. So effectively, both of you will get a townhouse of sorts with just one shared wall perhaps and your own space. You can register a strata having rights over your land and house and become 50-50 owner of that. That way both of you can sell it when you want or rent your portion.

To put it in prospective... during 2019, such a lot and such a house will cost about 1.2 million dollars in vancouver suburbs. The cost of a decent townhouse was about 900K-1.5M. So in 750K you get a better deal. I kept 150K extra for any modification or extra utility connection that you might need.

Trouble what happened was that decent houses now are north of 2 million dollars unless you want to stay a bit far away.

750 k lol hmm I am not that rich lol
Actually, you dont need to have all that at hand. You can get a mortgage with a downpayment of 100-150K or so. That way your mnthly payments are actually lesser than your rentals. Atleast that was the scenario before pandemic. Pandemic and government response made things impossible.

Yes, certifications are big in Canada. CPIM, CSCP best for Procurement/Planning. CLTD is good for Transportation
Good I have one of those I am renewing it it is fucking tougher than writing an exam.
They need 75 points and 24 points through watching some most boring crap.
Max 20 points through membership ascm
Last rest by reading books 6pt per book.

I have exp also in the field supply chain, lean six sigma, sql,BI,excel, python.
