Does anyone know if refugee claimants without having done the first interview and without the refugee ID can apply for BC Housing?

I looked and it seems that a refugee claimant can apply. This was pretty easy to discover as I Googled BC Housing and looked at the aplication requirements where claimants are included.

Thanks Bornlucky, I saw it they require refugees, not claimants that is why asked.

Well, I Googled BC Housing and started the application to get to the FAQ, and this was what it laid out as "Residency Requirements:"

Applicants must permanently reside in British Columbia when applying, and each member of the household must be one of the following:
  • Canadian citizen
  • Individual lawfully admitted into Canada for permanent residence
  • Refugee sponsored by the Government of Canada
  • Individual who has applied for refugee status
No adult members of the household can be under private sponsorship, except where BC Housing has accepted that private sponsorship has broken down.

Thanks again.

Thanks again.

The wait list for BC housing is 10+ years in some areas so I would not plan on getting access to subsidized housing. At risk groups will also be prioritized like low income seniors, the disabled, people fleeing domestic violence, single parents, etc. although the wait list can still be years even for high risk groups.

it is not like that, at least not +10. I have never heard any refugee wait for more than 4 years to get one.

Given the increased cost of housing yes people do wait more than 4 years for housing because increased demand and very few move out. You can’t count on getting subsidized housing. Being a refugee doesn’t entitle you to get subsidized housing.
