I guess you can, but while you are applying the system asks questions and based on your answer it will decide its sds and non-sds. So I am not sure if you can go through normal app, please dont omit any details while answering these questions. I suggest you see some videos on sds and non-sds step-by-step applications on youtube

No, its not clear that they are same, but they are getting delayed. But I strongly suggest go through SDS only if you can. They are processed in Canada where lock-downs might not happen considering their vaccination stages. Go with SDS if you can.

Hmm...I thought all SDS are processed in Ottawa, CN. That is what I read. Someone else please confirm.

Oh.. not India, so I guess I'm lucky that the VFS where I am at still has lots of available appointments.

Also, do the Visa Officer only start looking at one's file after biometric is done at VFS?

Correct, they have stated that they consider the file to be complete after biometrics received. Good luck

I applied for a study visa from Hyderabad on 14 Aug. Biometric slots were available on Sept 2nd @ Hyderabad. Had to play the lottery with three VFS accounts for 24 hours to get one in Kolkata on Aug 20.
By the way, which city are you from and what is your biometric appointment place and date for now?

Nice. But you travelled that far for biometrics? My details are in my signature. The closet for me after Bangalore is Pune and I dont see any dates for months there! So now I have to see other cities.

Yes, Sept intake. Banks fucked up my time with their processing timelines.
it is a 1.5-hour flight from Hyd to Kol, not so bad!

Yes they wait until biometrics are done.
