The Public Health Agency of Canada released data today that shows fully vaccinated Canadians have accounted for less than one percent of new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations since December.
Of the entire population eligible to receive a vaccine, 81 percent have received one dose and 66 percent are fully vaccinated.
But Tam said provinces need to take a "cautious approach" to reopening — even in regions where the spread hasn't been increasing — to allow more for more vaccine coverage.
"If cases increase ... it could mean that reopening is proceeding too quickly before enough people have developed immunity through vaccination," she said.
Tam pointed to the U.K., which — despite relatively high vaccination rates — still experienced a resurgence driven by the delta variant.
Tam said she'd like to see more than 80 percent of the population fully vaccinated but she's hoping uptake will be as robust as possible.

There is mistake in data

Of the entire population eligible to receive a vaccine, 81 percent have received one dose and 66 percent are fully vaccinated.

there is is 71.02% who has taken first dose not 81 and 58.78% fully vaccinated not 66.

You just need to flip the switch, it is under the data with the percentage of people vaccinated (opposite the word "Eligible")

Will they lift restrictions on 7 September?
Upcoming border changes
Fully vaccinated foreign nationals may be allowed to enter Canada for discretionary travel on the following dates if they meet specific criteria:

  • Effective August 9: American citizens and permanent residents of the United States, who currently reside in the United States, who meet specific criteria to qualify as fully vaccinated
  • September 7 (intended start date): All other foreign nationals who qualify as fully vaccinated
The 3-night hotel stopover requirement will be eliminated for all travellers arriving by air after 12:01 A.M. EDT on August 9.

Suspension of flights from India

The Government of Canada has suspended flights from India until August 21, 2021.

During that period, passengers who travel to Canada from India via an indirect route will need to obtain a pre-departure negative COVID-19 molecular test result from a third country before continuing their journey to Canada.
Travellers who have previously tested positive for COVID-19 must provide proof of a positive COVID-19 molecular test conducted between 14 and 90 days prior to departure, instead of a negative COVID-19 molecular test. This proof must be obtained in a third country before the continuation of the journey to Canada. You might need to seek entry and stay in a third country for at least 14 days.
Keep in mind:
certain countries do not allow entry or transit from passengers arriving from India or from passengers who have previously tested positive to COVID-19
COVID-19 testing for passengers in transit might not be available in all international airports or third countries
if you test positive during transit, you may be quarantined or sent back to your point of departure
Carefully consider your itinerary, transit options and entry requirements for third countries.
