You can get a 6/7 with good preparation with average English

I will not argue about that part :) Believe me, if I would have time to prepare for that exam, I would do it :) At the end I am happy with the score I got - There is no point to waste more money on that.

I concur. If your English ability is mere average or just a little above average it would be a herculean task to achieve Band 8, almost impossible. This is why E2 IELTS have a school (E2 Language) for people who have average or below average language skill. They would brush up those peoples level to above average first before tutoring them on actual IELTS skills

My Irish friend got 7 in speaking :D How? Do not ask me, I have no clue.
First time when I was doing my IELTS, I got 7 in writing :) the next time I got 8. Guess what, my writing did not change, I would say it was exactly same style as before :)

An 8 in writing is an incredible achievement. Nice one buddy.
In my first and only attempt I got a 7 in writing (while other modules were CLB 10) but i knew i did better; applied for remark and it got upgraded

Thanks, However, I could not understand where the difference was in the score hahahah :) I did not change my style at all. I think that sometimes they are just scoring very harsh.

Did you give Academic IELTS or General Training IELTS?

I have done General only. My gf needs to do both. She already done General which was good. She needs to repeat the Academic. Even after re-evaluation they did not increase her writing to 7 from 6.5. Everything else she had on 7.5/8.5

Hehehe; I wouldn’t call the IELTS tricky. Doing well in this test majorly depends on how familiar you are with the format of the questions and ofcourse, your prior level of English. Even native speakers can struggle if they don’t practice well enough.
Agreed. and also need to have some luck with the topic you get in writing and speaking. If its something you are familiar with you will have lots of points to make. I did this test twice and had a lower score the second time. Second time I was actually prepared more and was more serious. But the topics is writing and speaking were something I was not expecting.

That is a common misconception people have with the writing task. It’s not meant to test your knowledge of the topic. You can pretty much bullshit your way to a band 9 score with good grammar, accurate usage of lexical resources, coherent and fluid writing.

It’s not about how much you can write but how well you write it.

I have the same grades as yours, 7 in writing and CLB10 in the rest. I requested a remark on writing but didn't get an increase. :(

This is true to a large extent. The IELTS writing and speaking tests aren’t really a test of knowledge but a test of your language ability. Although it’s a good strategy to read wide or watch alot of high quality English documentaries/podcasts before the test as this can help with idea generation.

Looks like some people in this category are now getting movement from this Facebook claim.

Category FSW- O
COR- UAE
PPR- July 2021 (first PPR and not reissuance)
AOR- Feb 2020
VO- Montreal
This actually makes me feel better.
So the applicant is a Feb 2020 AOR. He might have completed biometric even before the lockdown. There was some ADR's for him in late 2020. He mentions this in his FB post. So there was some movement with the applications since last year.

Compared to this March 2020 and Post March 2020 AOR Indian residents have always had it worse. VFS was closed for us on march 18 2020 and didn't open till last week of Feb 2021. After eligibility and medical, IRCC was not able to do anything to our application since it didn't have biometrics to work on the application.
Only after the submission of biometrics my criminality was completed. Security is not yet completed and medical is expired.
So I think applications will be processed based on biometrics submission date. Indian residents will be at the end of the queue when it comes to 2020 backlog. Just my analysis.

This post is a good development for sure. But with regards my case, Only when a Indian resident who has submitted biometrics post Feb 2021 gets ppr , it means I am very close.

When a Indian resident gets it everyone else would have already got it.

Just my thoughts on how I see this. Good development.
