hmm I believed before covid they also were taking your thumb fingerprint to better secure your biometric passport?

So that means that all those passport issued remotely might be a little worse than regular one (pre-covid).

Does the ePassport have biometric information such as an iris scan or fingerprints?
No. The only biometric information stored in the Canadian ePassport is the photo of the passport holder's face.

The other information stored on the chip is the same as the information found on page 2. Once this information is locked on the chip, no information can be added or removed.

Ok thx for clarifying this. Most biometric passport in Europe requires fingerprints. But in Canada there is not such a requirement at the moment.

The impatient me just gave them another call… still no CC charged, the agent said everything looks good at this time and no documents are required. Still told me to call them after the 23rd since that would be the earliest when the passport is going to be available. She also said although it was received on the 25th, it was stamped on the 26th and entered into the system on June 2nd (I mailed on May 18th…). One other thing she told me is that the passport is being processed in Ottawa (I live in the GTA). Oh well… some patience is greatly needed here…

Now starting to wonder if I should wait for in-person services to reopen so I simply have to show my citizenship certificate. Not like I’m travelling anywhere, just for ID purposes.

I do feel like they are currently handling a great amount of applications with less staffs. We just have to wait I guess. Even they want to inquire anything, it would normally happen after the CC’s charged - at least that’s my observation.

I suggest dont wait for in person as once in person opens, there may be a much longer wait times.

Here is the big picture:

It seems painful to have pasaport received in 3 to 4 weeks currently, but my gut feeling tells me once in person open the wait time may go to over 6 to 8 weeks.

Everyone in Canada is waiting to head out. There may be thousands of Canadian citizens with expired passports looking to renew passport in coming months so to be able to travel abroad. This is pertinent as Canada is already considering relaxing quarantine requirements and we seem to have come out of 3rd wave (btw 4th wave is coming, so get passport and travel before we are in lockdown again).

Short answer:

Get passport sooner than later. All the best.

Badgamer6: Any updates on your end?

I got generic response "Application in process" on the query sent for status update.

Hey guys - update from mine. I’m impressed as my Oath was delayed but my passport is rushing too quickly that’s almost too good to be true:

Oath: June 3rd
Certificate received: June 8th
Application mailed: June 8th
Application received in Ottawa: June 9th
Credit card charged: June 14th
Waiting for certificate and passport now… hopefully this week?!? Will keep you guys posted.

I live in Toronto FYI.

That is fast!!! I don’t even have my CC charged by now… is it standard processing or did you request it to be expedited?

Just standard as I do need to drive to US but borders are still closed and I don’t have my second shot, so went with standard. I guess if you request urgently it goes to in person appointments…

Ah okay. I think you should be able to get yours by this week!!! I don’t even know what went wrong with mine…. They claimed to have received it on the 26th and only entered into the system on June 2. Today is the 9th business day since they started working on it, or the 14th business day since they received it… no calls to guarantor and references… ugh it’s incredibly frustrating.
