Urgent PR card renewal Questions

My PR card expired and my father is sick because of spinal injury and needs surgery overseas, a surgery that can not be done in my home country. where there is limited healthcare facility, if surgery is not done quikcly it coiuld be a permant spinal injury causing disability.

1. Can his health issue be classified as serioius ilness?
2. Also for the flight ticket, is it acceptable to provide one way ticket as I am not sure when I will be back and airlines can only provide a maximum duration of one year round trip ticket

1. You can certainly try. Make sure you follow the online instructions and submit a doctor's note and any other supporting documentation.
2. Yes, you can provide a one way ticket.

Note that you don't need to have a valid PR card to leave Canada. You can leave Canada without a valid PR card and then apply for a PR Travel Document once you are outside of Canada in order to be able to return. This may be the better option if you need to leave Canada immediately.

Ah - understood. Get the urgent PR card application in as soon as you can. Processing will be at least three weeks (assuming IRCC processes the application under the urgent stream).
